Well, I logged in today, with a purpose.
To see how far I could get with the guardians stuff without using anything other than in game tools and "rumours" (basic stuff I remember from reading here, which isn't much... Lol)
So I start my challenge in Deciat.
I've selected to use my Exploration DBX for this, due to something about tight landing zones.
Time: 0 minutes.
First task... Where the hell are they?
Turns out, that's easy-ish. There's a handy galmap filter.
After panning and zooming waiting for the galmap to reveal all, which it doesn't, I finally managed to trick it in to flashing up a system name.
Target set at the closest guardian system, some 7 jumps away.
Knowing nothing of the guardians really, I set galnet to chat away while I make the trip. 7 jumps later, and I've still not heard anything remotely useful.
Time: 10 minutes
In the target system, and hey presto, "Guardian Ruin" shows up on the nav panel.
That was easy. So I thought.
Turns out this is the old guardian site, I'd visited before. Lol
Doesn't seem very active.
Time: 15 minutes
Take 2. I fly to the next system on the filter.
Check the nav panel. Nothing.
Fly within 1000ls of most of the planets.
Nothing.
Figured I either must scan all the planets, or its on one 65k ls away.
Scan all the nearby planets.
Nothing.
Time: 35 minutes
Next system...!
I arrive, and begin scanning... again.
Eventually a ruin and structure pop up on the nav panel. Turns out scanning isn't required!
Time: 45 minutes.
I pick to land at the structure first.
Rough terrain, but the DBX makes it easy. Except I boosted in to the ground instead of deploy landing gear...
Hull: 53%
Time: 50 minutes.
I deploy the SRV, and immediately proceed to roll down a hill. Wasn't such a good landing spot. But I drive a short 200m to the structure.
From my previous experience with the ruins, I know I need the relics laying around. I scoop a load, and dump them in my DBX for safe keeping.
I also notice I can shoot panels off the ruins, in a similar manner to Lara Croft's "archaeology", and gather materials. For something.
A few obelisks light up, and I scan them for Alpha and Gamma whatsits. No idea what they're for. I continue to collect all relics.
Time: 60 minutes
Then... A sentinel shows up!
Fun! I kill it, and scoop more materials...
(It shot me first, ok?... Self-defence!)
Then more show up. And I kill them too.
With all the relics I need, I decide to check out the ruins. So I fly off, and later land at the ruin site.
Time: 70 minutes
There's no one around. Because, well, solo. Lol
I land, and go for a drive.
I now have literally no clue what I'm doing.
I grab more relics, and drive around some more. Nothing is lighting up for a scan.
I decide to get a better view of the area, and jump my SRV over the base, and then look around with the camera.
It's a bit dormant here. No movement.
After a "soft" landing, using my turret, and doing untold damage. I sit and ponder what to do.
Time: 90 minutes
Menu -> Quit to desktop.
Lol
Lesson learned. Don't try and play the game without atleast having a degree in "tomb raider archaeology" and cryptography.
Or access to the forums where someone else has done it all for you, and you just need to follow the steps like a Muppet.
That was my allotted play time used up. And now I feel like actually playing Tomb Raider...
