Final predictions before the reveal

Now that we got our 1.9 announcement alongside of new features, I say it’s time to place your bets on the dlc.
Please no discussions, lists only. I don’t want to have to scroll through multiple pages just to find everyone’s list.

I will share what I believe the pack will be and you please share as well. Just tell me what you think it is and when the proper announcement is made, just for fun I will check to see who is the most accurate.
I’m honestly thinking it can go many different ways but here’s what I got

Wetlands DLC
Capybara:
most requested and considering bathe behavior I’d say it’s a guarantee.
Red crowned crane: I’d like a bird of some type and to satisfy bird people.
Gaur: could use some bovines and they enjoy their waterholes.
Red River hog: Some Pig, these good looking pigs would fit in well
European River otter: I know people are requesting the ASCO, frontier is known to put an animal or 2 that we don’t expect or believe could have gone to another of that species. Plus no EU animal listed above.
Platypus: just to hit every continent
Trumpeter swan: that gives us NA
Exhibit: axolotl

I don't see why they would feel the need to tackle every continent. If we get another otter, it will be the Asian small-clawed. It's literally the only species that has garnered actual passion from the community; the Eurasian otter or NA otter haven't had the same popularity at all.

I don't think wetlands will be the theme though, and I'm not convinced at all that a capybara is coming (beyond the vague notion that they can also use hot springs, there's no reason to believe they're on the roster yet). I still think Asia is more likely; it's the only continent we haven't had a dedicated pack for (SEA doesn't count, it was regionalised to a specific biosphere).

Is the following a prediction or a wishlist? Who can say, those terms are often used near-interchangeably here.

Asian Animal Pack
  • Amur leopard
  • Przewalski's horse
  • Wolverine
  • Asian small-clawed otter
  • Siamang
  • Red crowned crane
  • Tanuki
  • Chinese softshell turtle
...This is definitely a wishlist, lol. Aside from the first two which I've very confident we'd see in a broader Asia pack, everything else is up in the air. Can we really expect a gibbon at this point? Would they actually revisit SEA for the otter (I mean, probably)? Are we ever going to see another bird, period? Would they really skip the blackbuck, the sloth bear, the lion-tailed macaque, the takin, the golden meme-nosed monkey? I frankly have no idea, but I do think this is close to the best and perhaps most broadly appealing broader Asia pack we can hope for, obvious bias pick and all.

Yes just place your wishlist as to what you think may be this dlc. No explanation needed, just for fun and gonna see who ends up most accurate.

Not sure if some of the features of the updates (hot springs, rice terraces) really indicates for an Asian related pack, so I'm going for a South American Animal Pack because we lack a lot of species from this continent and the SA pack was already two years ago (same counts for Australia and Oceania though).
So this is my list:
  • capybara
  • maned wolf
  • black howler monkey
  • South American coati
  • common rhea
  • ocelot
  • golden lion tamarin
  • exhibit: mata mata

South American Animal Pack
  • Capybara
  • Patagonian mara
  • Golden lion tamarin
  • Spectacled bear
  • Maned wolf
  • White-nosed coati
  • Greater rhea
  • Eyelash viper (exhibit)
Sloths and prehensile climbers (howler + Brazilian porcupine) knocked out by the lack of announced climbing changes

Asia animal pack.
Only north eastern Asia. So no India or SEA.

1. Amur leopard (large east Asian predator)
2. Przewalski horse (large central Asian herbivore)
3. Takin (large Himalaya herbivore)
4. Tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog)
5. Saiga antelope (medium central Asian herbivore)
6. Pallas cat (small cat of Himalayas)
7. Wolverine (medium predator of northern hemisphere, missed out in previous packs)
8. Variegated toadhead agama (gobi desert)

Considering the last two spring DLCs have had a tropical theme to them, I think it's safe to say it'll be the same here, and now that every continent has a DLC (except Antarctica), we'll probably be seeing biome packs next. Here's my idea for a Tropical Animal Pack:

Capybara
Fossa
Mantled Guereza
Bald Uakari
Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
Asian Small-Clawed Otter
Hoffmann's Two-Toed Sloth
King Cobra (exhibit)

Oof, this is hard. I might do a few options for each theme, honestly.

Latin America Pack:
  • Sloth - Any species
  • Armadillo - Any species
  • Coati - Either non-mountain species
  • New World Monkey - Spider, Howler, Tamarin or Marmoset are most likely IMO
  • Capybara
  • Maned Wolf
  • Rhea
  • Patagonian Mara
  • Andean Bear
  • Ocelot
  • (E) Basilisk Lizard/Green Anaconda/Emerald Tree Boa/Axolotl/Hercules Beetle/Matamata Turtle
Tropical Pack:
  • Indian or Indochinese or African Leopard
  • Capybara
  • Sloth - Any species
  • New World Monkey - See above for options
  • Old World Monkey - Langur, Colobus, Macaque are all good options
  • Gibbon - Any
  • Asian Small-Clawed Otter
  • Tree Kangaroo - Any species
  • Red River Hog
  • Sloth Bear
  • (E) Basilisk Lizard/Green Anaconda/Emerald Tree Boa/Tokay Gecko/King Cobra/Hercules Beetle/Panther Chameleon/Matamata Turtle
Asia Pack:
  • Leopard - Any Asian Subspecies or Generic
  • Takin
  • Tanuki
  • Przewalski's Horse
  • Gibbon - Any
  • Asian Small-Clawed Otter
  • Crane - Any Asian Species
  • Non-Gibbon Monkey - Langur or Macaque seem likely
  • Japanese Giant Salamander
  • Sloth Bear
  • (E) Oriental Fire-Bellied Toad/Chinese Giant Salamander/Tokay Gecko/King Cobra/Betta Fish
Wetlands Pack:
  • Capybara
  • Wading Bird - Spoonbill, Shoebill, American Flamingo, Stork, Heron, Ibis, Crane
  • Japanese Giant Salamander
  • Additional Crocodilian - Probably Nile Crocodile
  • (E) Oriental Fire-Bellied Toad/Chinese Giant Salamander/Pond Turtle/Basilisk Lizard/Green Anaconda/Axolotl/Hellbender/African Clawed Frog/Fish
Sorry if this is "cheating," but oh well. Consider this a checklist of likely species -- I'll bet a majority of the pack's animals will be on here if its one of these four themes, and if not, I'll... do nothing :p

At the moment I can see two possible outcomes:

Asia Animal Pack
  • Amur Leopard
  • Asian Small-clawed Otter
  • Przewalski's Horse
  • Pallas Cat
  • Raccoon Dog
  • Mishmi Takin
  • Sulawesi Crested Macaque
  • Chinese Giant Salamander
Or...

Tropical Animal Pack
  • Capybara
  • Sumatran Tiger (this one could be wishful thinking on my part as they are my favourite of the big cats)
  • Red River Hog
  • Fossa
  • Black-capped Squirrel Monkey
  • Cuban Crocodile
  • Javan Banteng
  • Panther Chameleon
Looking forward to finding out what we'll get regardless though!

I’m feeling an absolute outpouring of support for the tanuki/raccoon dog today that I’ve never noticed before. They’ve had a few fans here and there, sure, but today they’ve been on maybe every single Asia DLC list I’ve seen.

I couldn’t be happier. Let’s continue giving them our energy.

Until today i was sure we were getting a Latin America animal pack, but after the news about the update i think there are other three possibilities imo:

1. Latin America animal pack

This is mostly based on the leak from the datamining that the capybara sign was in the files. If so then i would like the following roster (and i also think is one of the most likely rosters based on the meta wishlists and community wishes):

1. Capybara
2. Maned wolf
3. Ocelot
4. Spectacled bear
5. Howler monkey
6. Greater rhea
7. Yacare caiman (they love their crocs and they make really good crocs as well)... if they don't go with any reptile the armadillos are a possible choice fitting with that burrows update.
8. Emerald tree boa (seems to be the most requested exhibit animal for this region)

I actually hope they surprise us and add some birds like the scarlet ibis, jabiru or roseatte spoonbill though ("wading" birds that could work without flying mecanichs which we are clearly not getting for now and that also fit with the "shallow water" theme that they are introducing with this update)
People keep mentioning sloths in their wishlist but just like the case with gibbons (see below) i don't think is something we should expect. I personally would love sloths instead of the rhea or the bear.

2. Tropical wetlands / Tropical rainforest animal pack

Now i guess the roster on this one will depend on which they go with since a wetlands pack would pretty much be an aquatic pack part II animal pack version, but if we consider both the capybara leak and the stick insect leak then this points to a tropical rainforest pack over the wetlands one. I wasn't sold on the idea of starting with "biome" packs but giving it some thought i think it would be cool for animal packs moving forward since will allow for a larger variety of animal species from all over the world. Having that in consideration then the wishlist i come up with is the following:

1. Capybara (i mean si obvious we are getting this one, that's why i think the Asia pack is the least likely of the three options)
2. Red river hog (very requested, and although they are not a priority of mine i really like them)
3. Some monkey (people want more monkeys and there are a lot of options and if they are making a tropical animals pack they must include a primate. My personal picks would be either a howler monkey or a colobus monkey). Ideally we should get a gibbon but without brachiation being possible at the moment i'm not so sure about it being included in the pack.
4. Fossa (not one i would personally pick but is high in the meta wishlist and would fit well in this)
5. Asian small clawed otter (love these little guys, they are so cute)
6. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
7. African or indian leopard (leopards are the second animal with the most votes in the meta wishlist just after capybara)
8. The freaking stick insect i don't really care about lol (i would prefer another viper or a chameleon)

Even though i would prefer more birds and more primates i doubt they'll do more than one of each if any. For a REAL tropical pack both are a must, but i give up on expecting them to include birds in their packs.

3. East Asia animal pack

OK so i think this one is the least likely but there are lot of reference to the far east in the new update with the rice terraces and the hot springs for japanese macaques, and this is also a region that is lacking in animal representation. I don't think is likely we are getting this pack in particular but if we are then my predictions would be:

1. Przewalsky's horse
2. Amur leopard
3. Wolverine
4. Golden/Sichuan Takin
5. Red crowned crane (i do think is possible they would include a crane if the are going with this pack). A mandarin duck or a golden pheasant are also good options but hte crane is much more iconic of Japan and East Asia
6. Golden snub nosed monkey (a personal wish but they know we want more monkeys so is also a possibility)
7. Markhor (honestly i prefer another bird, one the other two i mentioned above, but with the ibex and sheep rigs and the markhor being at n° 35 in the meta wishlist over any of the other birds i think this one is more likely)
8. Giant chinese or japanese salamander or fire bellied newt (maybe the new water rercolouring feature for exhibits are related to some kind of mostly fully aquatic animal in the pack)

Someone mentioned there is also a chance we might be getting 12 instead of 8 animals because of the days between the annoucement and the release, but i don't see them changing the dlc format as much as i would love that. 12 animals per pack sounds just fantastic but they will also have to raise the price of the dlcs and i don't know if that is a good buissnes move.

I tried to make this wishlists based mostly on what is highly requested for the community for what i've been able to gather, so this are not my "prefered" roster for the animal packs.

I'd be happy with any of these though.

I like it a lot, my absolute only criticism is that they're absent from American zoos which I build frequently. With that said, good luck to all my builders who prefer a European, Asian, or otherwise non-American style, and I hope your tanuki dreams come true.

Atlanta had them prior to last year (RIP to my good boys), and to my understanding Oklahoma City still does have them. But yeah, that aside, they essentially have no presence in American zoos which in any other circumstance would be a major detriment to my desire for them.

Good catch; I just found out abt the OK zoo having them!

I am convinced we'll get a Great Asia animal pack this year, but it feels more like a Fall theme than a Spring one to me.

I think this pack is going to be something different. I'm going to toss my bet in for a Children's Zoo or similar. Something that focuses on confident animals, expanding the exhibit system, and giving more behaviors/ enrichment possibilities for both animals and guests.

For animals, I think we'll get...

A bird
A monkey
A carnivore
An ungulate
A fish
And a capybara

So the big four predictions are split, two for regions, two for biomes.

Let's see, what can fit in each:

East Asia pack:

1. Amur Leopard
( No explanation needed )
2. PW Horse ( Also goes for my boy )
3. Red Crowned Crane ( Ambassador for East Asia, another bird, must I say more )
4. Takin ( Got a burst of popularity here recently, and I'm all for it )
5. Tanuki ( Would fit great in pack in role of a small mammal niche. Also super cute )
6. Golden Pheasant ( Another bird, iconic look, although it would feel wrong to only get Golden one without Lady Amherst's one )
7. Markhor ( I think given the presence in both ZT games it's almost given. Also very popular here )
8. Chinese Crocodile Lizard ( This one's for me )

I would put GSN Monke. But they're present in a circle of Chinese zoos and I like more broader present species. Now I have read here that Tanukis are sparse in America but on the other hand European zoos are littered with them

Latin America pack:

1. Capybara
( I mean...)
2. Maned Wolf ( NoT aNoTheR cAn...shut up, this one's different )
3. Andean Bear ( Closer to complete bear roster, with Llama helps shine some light on Andes )
4. Greater Rhea (A bird. With Maned Wolf, Anteater and next animal makes for decent grassland (pampas?) roster)
5. Big Hairy Armadillo ( To make use of new small burrows, and give us first armadillo. Also plead to whoever is in charge of naming animals to rebrand this guy )
6. Black Howler ( Tailed Monke from SA, we would need more but for starters )
7. Ocelot ( For me, although not unpopular given the distain for carnivora here. But it's so pretty and such a jungle icon )
8. Emerald Tree Boa ( When I heard we're getting exhibits I was asured this is getting in the base )

No Spider Monkes and Sloths until an update that makes them possible

I think wetlands and tropical are unlikely, but I'll do it for fun

Wetlands pack:

1. Capybara
( I shall not repeat myself...)
2. ASC Otter ( We need a "regular" to counter unusual one, like Fallow to Reindeer/Moose)
3. Shoebill ( Great, unique bird, would fit well with other African jungle animals. Also another bird )
4. Dalmatian Pelican ( Although first association with Pelicans may be sea, the Dalmatian ones are happily nesting in lakes in my country. Also bird )
5. Red River Hog ( Super popular here, super popular in zoos. No reason not to get them )
6. Asian Water Buffalo ( If we didn't get domestic animals before I wouldn't bet on it. But now...)
7. Black Swan ( It's only right to stuff wetland pack full of birds. Also enriches Australian sections )
8. Axolotl ( Sure, why not )

I don't think we would get Platypus out of the blue. I think if we ever get it something at free update would hint at some new behavior

Tropical pack:

1. Capybara
( Again )
2. Red River Hog ( -II- )
3. De Brazza Guenon ( My pick for tropical African monkey, but also interchangeable with Mantled Guereza )
4. Fossa ( Let's round up that Madagascar roster )
5. Black Howler ( What's wetlands for birds, jungles are for monkeys. We need another SA species, maybe even more )
6. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo ( Popular here, looks dapper, Australian Oceanian roster )
7. Prehensile Tailed Porcupine ( This one was rather for fun, I don't think we're ever getting it )
8. Panther Chameleon ( Stick insect can go redacted )

Again I don't think we're getting Gibbons, Spider Monkeys or Sloths until we get brachiations update. Although I must note out of those three I would not mind Spider Monkeys without brachiation.

This site is hell to use on the phone ☹️
