Finally done it...

The honk was never exploration. Exploration was what we did AFTER the honk. We provided our own depth.

But that pretty much consisted of:

1) Flying in a straight line in SC.
2) Waiting.
3) Posting pictures of an Asp in front of things.
4) Flying in a straight line across planetary surfaces.

Again, I am all for giving you guys what you want, but let us not pretend there was any depth to it, or any skill required. Its cool if you liked it, but it was what it was.

Something Real Explorers didnt like. :p

Didn't you need it explained to you that in virgin systems the FSS doesn't populate the system map?
I think it's a little rich to be criticizing other people for not familiarizing themselves.

Sure, because even out checking out the guardians I hit only visited systems. Had I happened upon a virgin system or two, I'm sure I could have figured it out.

Besides, that has nothing to do with being a curmudgeon.

Truthfully WR3ND, I think it's more a matter of not taking a few minutes to familiarize themselves with the new tools/controls, out of obstinate curmudgeonliness.

Perhaps some, but likewise, it might still provide some relevant, though subjective, feedback to Frontier all the same.

Six of one, a half dozen of the other, as they say.

And understand that I'm not disagreeing with you just to disagree with you. I just think that he repulsion to the new controls and mechanics are overblown.

I just finished max g5 modding a viper, and now I'm so sick of it I think I'll go deliver space rabbits to that imperial broad.

I'm certainly not claiming that the ADS was deep or required any particular skill.
But experience and knowledge played a part in deciding what bodies were worth 'investigating', spotting terraformables for example. The FSS removes that aspect and replaces it with hunt-the-blob.

If you're flying in a straight line in SC then you're doing it wrong.

Probes are a definite improvement, though my personal opinion is that they provide too much precision - I'd rather they gave a target zone rather than the exact location, but that's just my personal preference.

So the depth that I (and many others) inserted into our own personal exploration styles over 4 years has been replaced with something simpler and easier (this is what the FSS-aficionados tell me) and forced us into a one-size-fits-all version of what FDev consider depth.

As always, I have to point out that I don't wish for the FSS to be removed, just to have the option to no use it.

There are always curmudgeons after every update.
This time they're curmudgeon-explorers.

However, there's enough complaints from people who've overcome the 'keybind challenge' and still aren't happy with the FSS functionality, so the issues shouldn't be completely ignored.

I think it's safe to say that most wanted some more from it but made well enough of what there was.

Personally, I assumed something along the lines of the FSS for POIs, anomalies, and phenomena, but not as a replacement to the ADS functionality.

I think with how far the FSS swung, swinging back a bit the other way with optional black body functionality is a reasonable compromise both for varying gameplay approaches and contextual relevance that would still provide some additional compelling gameplay for some.

Can empathise with you OP, the new ui screens are pretty poor and disjointed.

Who in that company signs off on this stuff?

Totally agree.
Give me mass and temperature for a selectable black body and let me make a judgement as to whether it's a candidate ELW and then I'll fly off and take a look at it.
