Oh NO! Never! There isn't a fourth Elite... never.. never.. ahem... sorry....but....no just don't go there.
In my opinion the career ranks should expand at least to Mining, because that is very different from Trading.
And while we are about it, it might be appropriate to split off a rank from Combat for Xeno-Hunters, because that is a specialized activity in which not all combat pilots wish to participate.
That would make 5 career paths to choose from !
Not a fan - there are multiple paths to all the main Elites, Mining would be very limited, kinda like the CQC Elite...

I would take your suggestion a few steps further. Yes mining, xeno-hunting, even illegal activities like smuggling and piracy need their own career paths. What I would much prefer to see is that each of these career paths have a top tier that isn't called Elite. To become Elite a Commander has to reach the top level in ALL the various career paths, clearly demonstrating they have masters all aspect of being a superior pilot (in other words, fully competent in all aspects of the game).

Screw badges, how about trophies or awards we can place in our sleeping quarters (once we get Space Legs and sleeping quarters that is lol)
