finding federation star systems

I have over a Million bounty credits that I would like to collect, but I can only do that in a federation star system. I have no idea how to find a federation star system. Could someone please post some step by step instructions on how to do this?

If you have the galaxy map setup according to politics, all federal systems show up as red. All alliance systems are green, Imperial is blue, unaligned is yellow and uninhabited is grey.

The galaxy map is a tool with many useful options.
Take some time to become acquainted with it. It is worth it.

I have been using it and you are stating the obvious. there are no instructions so I come here for help

You know you can filter for superpower allegiance in the galaxy map, right?
Monkey is wise. I'm not in front of the game, but you go to the map, and on the middle tab you change the view from something to whatever the one is in the middle, then you can filter by allegiance in the drop down box.
.
I know I'm right I just can't explain why.

like I said 'no instructions' so sometimes it's nice to ask. I'm using the galaxy map and I'm still learning.

Thanks to all that replied to my question, I'm off to the races now, cheers

i use inara dot cz
enter your system and location
scroll down and a list of the nearest locations of each faction will be displayed

Just be aware that the Galaxy Map may be outdated; it doesn't automatically change when a system changes allegiance, it has to manually edited by the DEvs and they haven;t usually done that in recent months since systems change hands so frequently. It's entirely possible that a system that used to be Federation-owned and is marked as such on the galaxy map is no longer, either because it was given away to a player faction of rival allegiance, or because CMDRs playing the background sim have caused it to "flip". Always spend the few seconds needed to check the system map, to make sure the "Federation system" you've selected still belongs to them.

So in that sense, a well-maintained external site may be more accurate than the in-game galaxy map.

Enjoy the races.

I think it's sometimes difficult to appreciate things that others might miss - I don't recall ever finding the setting in the galaxy map; I guess that I just played with it and found it early in the game.

Thanks, this is good to know.

also worth pointing out. if system on the galaxy map says Alliance, Independent, or Empire it usually means there's at least 1 station with that allegiance. I use the 3rd party website I linked, because sometimes you can find a closer station that's Federation in a non-federation system.
