Fine fines and more fines! The fines discussion thread

well I'm one day in and I've given up on trying to make money for now. I've encountered a few things that make it too problematic....I don't know if these are bugs or features:

1. allocated pad number keeps changing before I can land
2. there's already a ship docked on my assigned pad
3. just as i'm about to land, suddenly I'm outside the station again
4. landed on the assigned pad, but my ship wont interface with the station
5. getting loitering fines whilst trying to land on my assigned pad (within time)

No doubt the bugs will be addressed as the weeks go by, but i'm getting unfair fines for loitering around the pad that the station tells me to land on. That destroys any profit from my cargo, plus I get a bounty so I'm getting attacked. Consequently I'm losing more money than I'm making so far!

Between the bugs and my amateur flying skills, I'm putting profit on the back burner for now and just blazing around the place.

This game NEEDS comms between ships. Its awful lonely out there with no method of communicating with other in-game players.....even if only to taunt them during a dogfight.

Obviously this is very early in the beta cycle.....its looking good though, and bugs aside, I'm really enjoying the experience.

EDIT - ooops, should have posted this in the "early impressions" thread....sorry :)

FINES linked to progess ??

I bashed into station wall on exit and got a $200 fine......I was not going back in to pay, I decided to pay at my next docking........only to discover on docing at next start port... fine was now $300 dollars..WOW!
that a bit of a jump!!!
Esp if your still in your sidey and just "having fun" not taking the "game" serious.............. Still think fine a bit steep..if you were a newbie?
o.k if your rolling in credits ................

think it would be better if fine linked to the crime and the 'level your credit is at. or else those with 'mega'bucks will just flaunt to law """whats 200 bucks??"""

what you think?

There is a percentage increase for all your bounties when you are paying them yourself. The current bounty system is bound to change with Beta 1 so don't worry about it much.

I'm not certain, but I think it means you're smuggling something illegal and if you're scanned by the cops you get fined and attacked etc.

I understand they apply if you fail to deliver the mission in the time frame.
Pick a 59 minute mission with a fine and ignore it and see what happens ... then report back please :)

Some of the haulage missions (with fines) give you cargo to take to another system, but the cargo I've seen so far is perfectly legal. I'm guessing the fine hits your account if you keep the cargo and don't finish the mission in the allotted time (or I guess if you lose the cargo before delivering it).

EDIT: and in the time taken for me to write this, two people have answered the question already - must use shorter sentences :)

That was my assumption. There has to be some sort of disincentive to running off with the goods. That's why courier / delivery missions will generally have a fine associated with them and combat bond ones won't (as they're likely to be offered to multiple people anyway).

I'm pretty sure it is due to smuggling illegal goods. Just did a run of Leather into Aulin and did not get scanned - no fine :D

If you are merely late with the delivery, I just assume the completion message disappears, so you cannot handin.

Yeah, I saw mission offering 4,000 for transporting 1 ton of palladium. I thought "Isn't palladium worth about 12,000? Why don't I just keep it and sell it? Then I noticed the fine was 12,000...

No problem selling it if you never plan on returning to that jurisdiction... not sure if there's a statute of limitations on fines! :)

I've got a bunch of fines, but I've been naughty by selling the goods. It doesn't seem to make you wanted or anything.

I picked a delivery mission I couldn't reach so had to let it time out at timeout I was given the fine mentioned . Now I have a time limit to pay a fine in that jurisdiction that I can't reach ,24hours.

My guess is that I will be a wanted man there until I pay up said fine, also once wanted in that jurisdiction some one with a kill warrent scanner can nail me anywhere I think the 24hour countdown may be a given time to pay fine before I actually become wanted there.

How do I cash in vouchers/pay fines?

What am I missing chaps, I'm clicking on them in the missions tab while docked in the correct station, nothing happens.

Vouchers and Bounties you deal with through the contacts in the station. So, not on the bulletin board or mission tab. :) Hope that helps.

Go into the station and select contacts. You will see "security office" or something....you can redeem them there. You have to contact the pilots federation to pay your fines, it's in the same area.

Fines are also mostly depending on the jurisdication you got them in. So if you have committed a crime in Federal jurisdication then you can only pay them in a system that has this jurisdication.

Fines gone?

Hello commanders,
I logged out last night with some fines with timers ticking, when I logged back in today they were gone. I did search the forums and check the patch notes but I was unable to find an explanation, I was expecting to have increased fines from not having paid them in time. Apologies if I missed this somewhere else.

On another note, I'm loving this game, it really does feel like the first true successor to the original, I've tried them all, X series, Wing Commander, Freelancer etc. 2 weeks in and really enjoying what I have found so far. I'm really looking forward to getting to meet some people and get some quality multiplayer action happening.
