Fines for shooting outside no fire zone.

I'm not sure if anyone else is having this, but the two instances I fired at wanted ships near a station I got a 100cr fine for firing inside the no fire zone. The first time I was 500m out and the wanted ship was just inside the zone. The second time I was 1km out (and facing away from the station) and the wanted ship was 1.5km outside the zone. Both ships were NPC pirates that were a bit too slow to interdict me approaching the station. Why am I getting fined if mine and NPC ship are outside the zone and no shots enter the no fire zone?

Are you sure that they were outside the fire zone? Maybe they entered the no fire zone before they died giving you a bounty. Just guessing here. Firing at wanted ships near a station when there are so many other venues with Nav Beacons, REZ and CZs are more defined and make much better combat profits.

AFAIK the no fire zone extends to an indicated distance of 8km for "big" stations, less for outposts.
This.
I remember reading something about the nfz distance was related to the length of the station from front to back: longer stations = bigger nfz
Although, I'm certainly not testing it under new c&p rules ;)

What are you using as an indicator of the extent of the no fire zone, perhaps we if understand that we will work out what is going wrong?

Easiest way to test it is to fly away from the station until you hear the ATC signing you off. It's between 7.5 and 8k out. I fell foul of some strange littering law dropping cargo for a mate to scoop up...we were 6k out.

100 credits for fly tipping...sheesh [rolleyes]

That was my bad, turns out this station's nfz was 10km. SC kept dropping me in at 9km and I could've sworn I kept getting the nfz notification at 8km, but my last trip there today I got the notice exactly as I dropped out of SC. Haven't been to a 10km nfz for a few weeks and I don't recall ever been dropped inside one at any other station. So even though I was 8.5-9km out, I was still in the nfz. Had a nagging feeling I was missing something.

If only you'd have been near an outpost... where the NFZ ends at 5k out;)

A normal drop into a Orbis station will put you at about 8km out so your already 2km inside the no fire/speed zone's which are the same distance, even with the throttle set to zero you will see your speeding indicator light up for those first few seconds that's the only warning you'll get. I think the Coriolis station zone's was recently extended and are now the same as the Orbis stations.
