Newcomer / Intro Fire groups on the SRV

This is something which is driving me mad! I can't successfully set up fire groups for the SRVs Dual Repeaters and Data Scanner, nor can I cycle through the groups that I set up. Basically I want to have the guns shooting in Combat mode and then when I change to scan mode select a group which brings the Data Scanner into action when I press the primary fire button. Cant get it to work. I have to go into Fire Groups, remove the dot from the Repeaters, set 1 on the Data Scanner so that it will operate. Then the reverse process to get the Repeaters active again. Must be an easier way!

Is it actually possible to set up different firegroups in a SRV?

I haven't had a trundle in mine since the update, so I might be missing something.

Why two different firegroups? - just two different buttons in the same group should work.

Exactly what I thought but no, no, not working.

Yes sir. Button 2 works no problem with ship weapons. Just get on with it I suppose.

I repeat: "Do you have a fire button 2 assigned in the SRV part of Options / Controls? - they are different from the ship ones. i.e.:

I have a theory - it's a bit of calculated guess.
AKA I haven't really got a clue what I'm talking about.

There are different types of button response - pulse and hold.
When a button is set to pulse it sends a single pulse. This causes, for example, a weapon to fire once, no matter how long you hold the button. To make the weapon fire multiple times you keep clicking the button.
For a scanner you need to hold the button down while the scanner charges. (It effective sends a continuous stream of pulses until you stop pressing the button)
So a button set to pulse won't do that.

If you're using a button that's set to fire a weapon then I'm guessing it's set to pulse, not hold.

Just to cover all the bases (I just confirmed in game):

Yes you can set up fire groups in the SRV (I have 2 normally).

The fire buttons in the SRV are different from the ship ones.

The dual-repeater will only fire in combat mode.

The compo scanner will only operate in analysis mode.

The data-link scanner will operate in either mode.

The dual-repeater will operate on either fire button 1 or 2

The data-link scanner will operate on fire button 2 or 1 (I assume compo is the same).

Great, now I gotta go futz with my SRV fire groups and try to make this gaming mouse work for that. I thought I had it all figured out but NOOOOOO... Always one more tweak before we get to the top of the mountain.

And Para Handy, is that haggis on your plate?

Wow so many features...so does that mean there are separate HUD modes for shooting and analysis like when asteroid mining in space? I can't check right now because I have just switched off my gaming machine...

And I suppose the compo scanner (is that a composition scanner?) is activated in analysis mode...what is a datalink scanner? In fact I spotted something just as a glimpse (and couldn't find it again) while on the ground...something to do with an unidentified datalink or similar....this is all new to me!

I use only one firegroup - SRV plasma repeater for firebutton 1, both scanners for firebutton 2. Switch to analysis mode if you want to scan geological phenomenon et cetera. Less fuss and no requiring switching firegroups in addition to switching between combat/analysis mode.

Yes two HUD modes just like your ship.

Analysis mode for the Composition Scanner which adds data to your codex and the Data Link Scanner which talks to comms arrays and datapoints.

Combat mode for the
Data Link Scanner which talks to comms arrays etc and your guns used to break things open for collection and for shooting combat targets.

I also use one firegroup for the three, it does mean I get to ignore a lot of wrong firegroup messages but it works fine.

That's what I do.

But rather annoyingly, the Composition Scanner keeps getting unbound. Not sure when it happens, either when I change the loadout/firegroups on my ship, or if I add/remove the SRV Hanger from the ship; will have to test more but I suspect it's the latter.

Afterwards it always takes me a while to figure out where the CompScanner's gone.

@FDev: Please save SRV firegroup settings permanently, regardless of if an SRV is fitted or not!
And please save the decals/paintjobs for SRVs inside an SRV Hanger when that Hanger is stored.

It's the removing/storing of the SRV hangar that unbinds the firegroup selecctions for the SRVs, yes. After finding that out it's the first thing I rebind when deploying the SRVs after putting the hangar back onto the ship.
