Fire Mode for my multi cannons

I have gimballed multi cannons and want to have the turret weapon mode, where they only fire when i hit the trigger and stop firing when i stop pressing the trigger, is this Fire at will ?

I'm not expert, but that sounds more like turreted.

1. Fixed only shoot 1 spot when you hold the trigger.

2. Gimballed are like fixed but with aim assist, they only shoot when you hold the trigger.

3. Turrets can have different behaviours, these can be changed under functions -> turret weapon mode.

Forward fire = They function like fixed weapons.
Target only = You select a target, press fire and they will keep attacking.
Fire at will = The turrets will attack all hostiles in range automatically, you do not need to press fire.

in the modules-menu the multi cannons have a turret symbol and as i had fire at will they just followed the target and shot at it all time, wasting tons of ammo..so i guess the info of timbero is what i need, "forward fire"

Either that or swap them for gimballed.

Exchange press trigger with switch firegroup, if you still want your first idea ("turret-gimbals") realised @ OP: Set turrets to target only, setup firegroups with and without turrets. Turrets will only fire if they are in the currently selected firegroup, i.e. initiate attack with turrets-firegroup, hold (turret) fire via switching to a firegroup without turrets (->stop firing immediately). Putting such groups next to each other helps.
