- chose the loyalty reward you would like to get
- pledge to the power
- wait 4 weeks
- do the errands to get merits
- buy the loyalty reward
- defect to another power to get another loyalty reward
- make sure the agents they send to kill you for defecting, do not kill you
- wait 4 weeks
- do the errands
- buy the reward
- rinse and repeat until you have all the rewards you want

Some of those rewards are pretty neat... Like Imperial Hammer, Enforcer, Pack Hounds etc... Even the Prismatic Shields can be useful...
The reason I brought it up here is to have you pledged before you go exploring... Because when you return, you will probably already have enough credits to buy whatever you want and you will not have to wait those 4 weeks to get your first reward...
I'm not sure if you need to visit the HQ of the respective power to pledge though... I dont remember how I pledged...

That is the only thing I do not remember, I pledged to my second power 4 months ago, before I went into the darkness... So I do not remember...
You should be able to pledge on the powerplay screen. And you WILL have to wait the 4 weeks to be able to claim the powerplay reward.

go to the right screen, click on Galactic Powers, then the scroll through the powers their bio. There will be a tab to pledge to the power of your choice.
I just checked, seems that you can pledge without being docked... I would have to defect to confirm 100 percent...

Hmm didn't you need to rank up with faction? Meaning being 4 weeks as member is not enough, you need to do work for your faction. And PP faction membership paints big fat target on your back, so one should consider quite much about joining PP.

Yes, and I pointed that out in my "guide" if you read it properly... 4 weeks + the errands to get the merits...
And regarding the target: nothing horrible ever happened to me while being pledged... Yes, when I defected, I was for a while chased by some secret agents who tried to kill me, but that was just a minor annoyance...
I just left one faction, waited a few days then joined another. No hassle.
BTW not sure if you know of this website. It lets you fiddle with different ship designs.
