First time in Solo Mode

This is my first time in Solo Mode. I'm in it only because the game keeps on crashing on me when I'm in Open Play and I am unable to do anything at all.

I am able to get from station to station without crashing, however I'm finding something interesting - I can't get any missions from the Bulletin Board at any of the stations. I receive the message: "Failed to communicate with server. Unable to get an up to date mission list from server."

Does this pertain to Solo Mode only? (In other words, you can't get missions in Solo Mode?) Or is this another bug?

Try exiting the game and restarting. Solo mode is still "online," but you're the only human pilot in the galaxy.

..that you can see. In actuality the different 'modes' are just visibility tags. If you choose solo, you only see yourself...but there are others flying around and next to you.

Private Group only sees people you give permission to see you. And Open everyone is flagged as visible to each other.

One server, one galaxy, one Background Simulation, one Power Play galaxy binds us all together...tighter than the One Ring.

Well, that's good information to know.

I had to go solo a few times because the game got crazy. Ever since I left federation space and headed out to make my way in Archon Delaney territory I have had no problems. Possibly because so few people decide to go there? I don't know. I did get totally locked into a system once and the game would not stop crashing. I filled out a ticket with FD and they moved my ship a few systems over, and ever since then my game has been 100 percent on point. No crashes at all. Unless I switch ships, then it will crash and I reload to find myself in the ship I picked in the shipyard.

I spend 99% of my time in SOLO. I learned in the first day that it was hands down the best, most stable mode to be in with this buggy build we have been stuck with for almost a month! (unbelievable)

Anyway... You will find it far more enjoyable if you hate crashing as much as Open Play crashes. Besides that, if you are doing Rare Item trades, you won't have as much hassle from Pirates. ;)

The older I get, the less I feel like playing with other people, and the more SOLO mode appeals to my sensibilities. ;)

I'm 99% sure that problems in Open are due to networking issues, as very early PC releases (around Nov-Dec 2014) had similar issues. Being hard wired definitely makes a difference, or at least a decent Wireless-N network. The Detailed Network Statistics text on the Xbox can give clues, e.g. dropped packets or slow upstream speed. Resetting your router, especially if it's older than 3-4 years, once in a while is almost essential for online gaming. The router has a very, very small amount of RAM, typically 32-64K, and it caches various thing like DNS lookups and routing info, and can clutter up over time. Modern routers tend to be more resilient, but my 12 month old one still needs reset around every 3 months or so, or I start to see glitches.

I also do a monthy reset, i even put in my agenda.

Internet in general is so much more stable that way.

If my new ship is upgraded, i always play open, besides Mars High, i didn't experienced a crash over a week now. I might also depends on on what server you play. The game puts me on server 13 and 23 alot, no crashes there. Sometimes i play on other servers, and my game crashed (only in the same instance as Mars High).

Move to Vega now, didn't had any crash there till now. *Knock on oak wood*
