Fish!

Cichlids would be cool to have especially after noticing how some zoos have combined them with hippos. If fish were in game I don’t actually think they’d be a fully functional animal in terms of eating but more likely a looped animation animal like exhibit animals which is ok for me. When you update your bears food to level 3 the fish in their food looks very realistic but I don’t really expect to get fish but I guess will see.

I have no clue if their recycled Game engine and code is capable to support self-designed tanks and cages and freely flying/floating animals.
But it should be possible to give us fishes and birds in exhibit-facilities.

We need Cichlids. I've noticed yesterday how perfect the Indoor Tank for my Hippos would be with them.
Of course other Fish would also be great and some Underwater Plants

In planet coaster it was quite easy to make an aquarium with videowalls.

And while you can easly make a basin with glass-barriers in planet zoo, you have no custom pictures, no fish props...and the shapes are to big to fake one that does not look like ;-)

I'd be fine with exhibit-style aquaria, but it becomes complicated when you start wanting fish that live in large schools. Cichlids are a good example of this, because typically in a tank the size of the in-game exhibits you'd need 50+ of them to create a functional ecosystem, and I'm not sure if anyone has the patience to sit there and adopt hundreds of tiny fish from the market to fill a tank (and that doesn't even take into consideration how often they would breed in such huge numbers).

For me I think there'd need to be some kind of compromise around creative freedoms. Big fish, such as moray eels which can live in a tank alone or in groups of 2-3, or even piranha which could happily be in a school of 6-8 in a tank the size of the exhibits, could be on the market, but it might be worth adding in 'scenic' tanks as well, i.e. pre-fabricated aquaria where adding animals is just ticking a box and letting the game generate the looped animation based on whatever box you clicked (so, if you ticked 'African cichlids' the game would generate an environment based on that choice, including a bunch of fish which swim around on a loop, saving you the hassle of having to refresh the market countless times).

In other cases, making fish into a special effect would be good. For something like koi fish, a little effect that you can place in a pond to simulate there being fish inside would be fine by me. 'Small' would be two fish swimming around each other, 'Medium' would be four, and 'Large' would be six. These would of course not require any management or care, and would solely be decorative, but it would serve the purpose.

I don't think we necessarily need the ability to build big custom tanks, though. They might one day make a game called Planet Aquarium or something where you can build a replica of, say, the Georgia Aquarium, with huge custom tanks for things like whale sharks and manta ray, but zoos typically deal with aquaria on a smaller, more manageable scale (some zoos do combine a full aquarium into their infrastructure, but this isn't common).

Planet Aquarium
It sounds good. completely clean game without controversy. for fun. No restrictions on the game. but I repeat that there may be indecision about animal list. One of these two games has to give up sea lions. I don't think the Frontier would want to make a sea lion in either game. but it seems like a solution that sea lions come to both games as DLC.
For example, some game developers are developing a single DLC package for two different games, this applies to both games. For example, they can collect sea animals that fit the zoo theme and make a single package. such as an otter, a sea lion. they can issue a single DLC package for these animals and validate it in both games.

But I also give rights to people who want to mix all animals.

Did you see the first pic the posted of the aquarium wall animation in Planet Coaster? Do you understand now why we need this same feature in Planet Zoo and why I have advocated with so much intensity for it? Plus you love space fillers, can you imagine how much space you would be able to cover with this? Who needs planet aquarium, (just kidding) give me this animation and will create the Georgia Aquarium for you, or the Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise, much more amazing in my opinion. I have driven to the Georgia Aquarium many times, it is pretty neat, but Japan's version of it is pure art, magnificent in every way. Anyways you see what you do with your talk of Planet Aquarium do not give this old fool any false hope, continue doing your job of keeping expectations low, that is what the check is for.

That picture also illustrates why I don't like the billboards - that is a video of real fish, not Frontier-made 3D rendered fish (plus it's a two-dimensional video). So I suppose it illustrates both our points pretty well!

As for Planet Aquarium, I'm not exactly hopeful, if you really want me to keep expectations low. I expect we'll get Planet Coaster 2 before another whole new game, and eventually, some day, Planet Zoo 2 (though it boggles the mind to imagine what that might be like, given how amazing the game currently is).

(Also, I'd lop off my own arm to visit Yokohama Hakkeijima; what an amazing place!).

Focus on the general concept and the possibilities that it could unlock not on one player's design or choice of media, as it can be quite misleading. Consider this game as a blank art canvas, you will have those that will draw a collection of lines on it and place every color available to them on the canvas, while calling it a masterpiece, as it is their right to do so. There will be others that go over each inch of the canvas in meticulous detail and will carefully choose what is placed within the canvas. Then it is up to you to determine what stimulates your senses, what is truly art to you? At the end I believe in unlocking all shades of colors and having all tools readily available, it is up to you whether you choose to use them or not.

Both Aquariums in Yokohama are amazing. Really worth the trip. I know this is off topic, and probably the worse time to mention anything travel related, but Nippon airlines did offer until quite recently a great deal when traveling to Singapore, another mecca of zoos and aquariums, where you could stop in a number of cities of Japan for the same exact ticket price. I have always recommended to colleagues that when planning a trip to either destination, consider visiting both places as they are so incredibly amazing. Singapore is now working on relocating their world famous Jurong Bird Park into what they call the Mandai Project, it is truly breathtaking. The plan calls for the second largest bird park in the world to now be adjacent to the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and latest addition River Safari (another can't miss attraction is you care about fresh water rivers and what is found there) All this will be integrated within a state of the art nature reserve that will serve as the heart of the expedition. Singapore's offerings are already out the over 400 wildlife destinations I have visited, some of the top zoological displays in the world. Add to this SEA. Singapore, the world's largest aquarium, and it is truly a can't miss proposition.

Many zoos have aquariums, but it may take some time for the company to build a new DLC for the future, but we don't know what's coming next?
