Fix the Malayan Tapir Please!

I guess you mean this one? I was looking at it earlier today, it does look good, only the eyes are too clear I think.

This poor thing went through the abuse of its life :) The most circulated and edited image of the week on the internet. The sad thing is, it is actually very cute. :D

😍 It would be absolutely great if they could get the Fur to somehow look like this. Maybe they could do some Trick with the Fur Texture to let it look like this? Just don't know what would be the best Way to do the Tail correctly

I see and respect what your saying. I hope I’m not coming off as confrontational at all I’m just not convinced frontier should have to put more time into a animal that quite honestly looks pretty presentable in its current form. I could see if it was a little off like the binturong but this looks more then good enough imo. You could also make the same argument about the Baird’s tapir.

I agree that a few tweaks could make it look better. Especially to the top of the head, belly and rump. These should be much easier fixes compared to the binturong. Even the complete overhaul of an animal took less than a week to fix. I bet these minor tweaks wouldn't take more than a few hours.

Then again, I think we should wait to see it in the game first.

More things I'd like to point out regarding the issues with the Malayan Tapir:-
  • The head and neck are proportionately too small in comparison to the body.
  • The neck can be thicker as shown in the real tapir photos.
  • The legs proportionately are too tall.
  • Trunk needs to be rounder.
  • The back should be rounder, and taller than the tapir's shoulders
  • Malayan tapir should be abit bigger/longer than the Baird's tapir, as it is the largest Tapir in the world.

The sign art did a better job interpreting the tapir than the models. Of course it's just a drawing so it'd be easier.

Hopefully, the tapir can be tweaked more since it is one of the most anatomically inaccurate models in the pack after the Binturong fix and updates.

Was really astounded to see how quickly and adequately Frontier addressed the binturong. Really fantastic customer/fan service.

In response, I went ahead and made this forum account to throw my support for editing the Malayan Tapir as well. It is one of my favorite animals in real life and I instantly recognized that the model was just a reskin of the Baird's. While I was thrilled to see additional animals in this pack, we want the same standards to apply to each animal as all others have been in the past.

As others have noted, the changes should theoretically be easier than the binturong. The body should be bulkier, the ears perkier, and most importantly, the snout should be longer, thicker, and more rounded. ALSO, I noticed that the underside of the feet are inaccurate as well, which should blend with the toes. Tapirs are odd-toed ungulates (order: Perissodactyla) like horses and rhinos.

Changing the underside of the feet is obviously a much less important change, but why not while at it? Really just a change to the face and back would be adequate, but changes to the rest of the body would be the icing on the cake. Thanks again for considering our feedback!

EDIT: Started writing post before preceding was posted. Agree with points by @Chromekat. The fact that the sign accurately depicts a Malayan Tapir while the model does less so is a bit funny.

After seeing it in game, the biggest problem is size. A malayan tapir is so much bigger than the already existing tapir but in-game they're the same.

I feel at this point they're not going to do anything about it. I honestly didn't notice anything was off about it till everyone pointed it out and now I can't stop seeing it. As others have said, the tapir is passable because it looks like a tapir even if it doesn't look like the correct kind. The same can be said about the lion, its face looks a little cartoonish but it still looks and passes as a lion. The same can be said for the chunky bears we have in game. The binturong got uproar because it looked nothing like a binturong and it didn't even look cute in its stylized form. It was just ugly.

Considering even the Arctic wolf being distinctly different to the timber wolf, despite the two being the exact same species, I think better differentiation between the two tapirs is necessary.
Now that I had the chance to actually see and play around with them in the game, I must say I couldn't agree with this statement more. Even though there isn't anything visually displeasing with the Malayan tapir, a situation we had with the binturong, they still look too identical to the base game tapir. In all honesty, the two animals have quite some distinguishing features in real life. Right now the Malayan tapir looks exactly like a black and white Baird's tapir.

This made me question whether the new 8 animal pack DLC model should be continued in the future. The game initially released with the premise that each and every animal will be unique on its own right. This proved to be true with the base game and all the DLC's up until now. Like, even the two wolves have very unique looking models and distinct behavior, despite being the same species as @Ursidae noted. Same goes for the two brown bears and tigers. Even though I was super excited about the first ever 8-pack, now I'm on the fence about the idea. Feels like the new DLC model will harm the game more than it does good.

I guess the Malayan tapir is the first animal in PZ that is a throwback to the reskinned ZT3 animals. Unless they add some finishing touches.

Like you've said, we've now seen the animal, and a few minor touches would be appreciated for it to be distinct enough from the Baird's tapir.
