Fix to the bounty system.

So, just some story before my suggestion. I was flying a Keelback with a fighter bay and lots of missiles. I'm out at a resource extraction site claiming bounties for one of the community challenges and I had collected hundreds of thousands of cr worth of bounties. Then as I'm finishing off some lowly adder with a messily little bounty I fire two 2c seeker missiles and the adder explodes before they reach the target, but they just manage to peg a security ship. suddenly about a dozen ships turn and light me up like a Christmas tree with too many strands of lights plugged into one outlet with no surge protector. I had just enough time to see that I had gained a tiny little 500 something bounty and I was gone in an instant. my suggestion is that you introduce some kind of surrender option to the security forces for small bounties because that was total . I lost HUNDREDS of thousands of cr worth of bounties because my inept missiles missed their target. Pleeeeeaaaaaaase add a surrender option instead of instant death. Again, I was in a Keelback so I had NO hope of escape.

Sorry for your loss!

I wrote a guide for this exact situation (because it happens alot).
[Guide]So You Shot A Cop. Now What?(A Guide To A Safe Exit)

Basically missiles, mines, and SLFs are a liability in a combat situation. It's one of their downsides.
Heck, I've even shot myself with my own missiles. Lol

While there's nothing you can do if your missiles go AWOL, you always need an exit strategy.

Good luck, and fly safe!

Ok, so I do understand the, "Don't use AOE in a big group fight" concept, while I'm fairly new to the game I'm not new to gaming. My big issue is that this game is so incredibly immersive, it tries to make you feel like you are a real commander in the vast galaxy of the milky way. My suggestion is that they make it more realistic in a sense that the cops don't all go murder rampage for a simple mistake. All I'm saying is that some kind of surrender mechanic like Elder Scrolls or something that allows you to show the computer that you made a mistake and are willing to pay for your crimes and not be murdered. Especially in cases were you don't even take down a persons shields. Friendly fire happens in real life battlefields as well and while there are consequences our troops don't instantly turn on the guy who commits friendly fire and blast him into the dirt without so much as a "Hey watch it", there's usually an investigation and possible court marshal first. Its really more of an emersion thing for me.

Yeah, friendly fire incidents are pretty common place here. We've all done it. Some more than others.

I do think a lot of us "older" players tend to forget that it's very very easy to simply fly away from security, with out larger Uber engineered ships that can't be mass locked. Where as new player ships are slower, weaker, and smaller. Escape is much more difficult.
BUT, it is a skill you need to learn.

A "surrender" mechanic would be useful, even if it was very limited (which it would have to be to prevent abuse).

It could simply be, if you assault someone and gain an Assault Bounty, you must first retract hardpoints.
Then hail security and/or the ship you assaulted and admit your mistake (or broadcast an apology...?), with 60 seconds.
Your reputation with all factions involved determines the outcome.
If they decline, you get shot.
If they accept, your bounty gets turned in to a fine, for 8 minutes, or until you commit another crime, before it reverts back to a bounty.
You then have 8 minutes to pay it off. :)

That could probably work. Lol

Although I am not 100% sympathetic towards your specific case (i.e using missiles in a crowded RES is fraught with danger), I have long argued that NPC's should prioritise their targets based on bounty size.

What I've noticed is, if you hit a neutral NPC's, say a miner, or unscanned pirate, even if security are in the immediate area, they'll ignore you for some time.

However, if you hit a security ship, then they respond immediately.

I find this to be acceptable.

If you become friendly with the controling faction, not only do they show up as bright green in your radar, they also seem to be more lenient towards stray shots.
