Flac support for Custom music

Can we please have FLAC support on the custom music for rides to add to MP3 and OGG support as it would mean converting when i have 1TB of music to choose from.

I'm guessing the choice of formats you are allowed to import is related to the technical restrictions which were imposed on the development of custom music in the first place, and possibly due to licensing issues. It should be easy enough to convert the tracks you need. [happy]

well FLAC is free. To quote the wikipedia page
FLAC is an open format with royalty-free licensing and a reference implementation which is free software.

So maybe the reason is techical

Yeah sorry I don't think FLAC will happen as it is a lossless format that would be too large for the game I feel. And when the game engine does it's thing it may compress it further making FLAC even more irrelevant.

You also wont notice the loss of sound quality unless you really have a mega sound system or super expensive headphones whilst playing and are an audiophile. I mean even on my sound system I play MP3 because I can just get more on a drive.

The only time it is really noticeable is when playing Blu-Ray. That has a massively noticeable difference to standard DVD etc because they use true lossless files.

I dont mind it compressing it or whatever its the fact i have to convert it. I do have amazing headphones along with a good sound setup. I can hear the difference and yes Bluray's sound amazing but its because they have insane bitrates for audio doesnt mean FLAC isnt lossless. I can rip a audio bluray such as Nirvana's Nevermind to FLAC and it be the same bitrate just a better compression method then raw audio.

Hey there WhiskeyOmega,

We have added FLAC support in today's update. It is a bit experimental so if there's any issues please let me know. I thought you might also be interested in the story of how it got implemented into the game:

One of the other programmers who does not even work on Planet Coaster was continually asking when we were going to add FLAC support (even before we had mp3 working [haha]). He also didn't want to convert his several thousand strong music collection to mp3 just so he could put heavy metal on the carousel. He then basically implemented the feature without any input from the Planet Coaster audio team. Some people do really just love FLAC that much [haha].

The list of file types we now support should be as follows: .mp3 .ogg .wav .wma .aac .m4a .flac which I think should cover pretty much everything.

Cheers,
Jashby

Haha that's pretty awesome and shows me that I was wrong lol. But am glad it's here plus he has done the same with Heavy Metal on the carousel as I have done :p

*Should* (in theory) also be able to play back Ogg FLAC files (although I don't think I know anyone who actually uses them). It's done based on extension, so if you have .flac we assume it's native FLAC, if you use .oga we'll assume it's in an Ogg container. Enjoy :)

Wow this is awesome. thank you. 1 small thing i noticed though is that planet coaster doesnt like shortcuts. So i have to put the music in the folder. I don't know how they did it but i know GTA V, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator (3 of my other fav games) all support shortcuts to the music i have on other drives. I have tried putting shortcuts of the tracks right in the folder but this does not work. I also wonder with shortcut support is there a limit to the user music that can be listed as it may go berserk when it sees my 750GB strong music collection.
