Can we please have FLAC support on the custom music for rides to add to MP3 and OGG support as it would mean converting when i have 1TB of music to choose from.
I'm guessing the choice of formats you are allowed to import is related to the technical restrictions which were imposed on the development of custom music in the first place, and possibly due to licensing issues. It should be easy enough to convert the tracks you need. [happy]
FLAC is an open format with royalty-free licensing and a reference implementation which is free software.
Yeah sorry I don't think FLAC will happen as it is a lossless format that would be too large for the game I feel. And when the game engine does it's thing it may compress it further making FLAC even more irrelevant.
You also wont notice the loss of sound quality unless you really have a mega sound system or super expensive headphones whilst playing and are an audiophile. I mean even on my sound system I play MP3 because I can just get more on a drive.
The only time it is really noticeable is when playing Blu-Ray. That has a massively noticeable difference to standard DVD etc because they use true lossless files.
Hey there WhiskeyOmega,
We have added FLAC support in today's update. It is a bit experimental so if there's any issues please let me know. I thought you might also be interested in the story of how it got implemented into the game:
One of the other programmers who does not even work on Planet Coaster was continually asking when we were going to add FLAC support (even before we had mp3 working [haha]). He also didn't want to convert his several thousand strong music collection to mp3 just so he could put heavy metal on the carousel. He then basically implemented the feature without any input from the Planet Coaster audio team. Some people do really just love FLAC that much [haha].
The list of file types we now support should be as follows: .mp3 .ogg .wav .wma .aac .m4a .flac which I think should cover pretty much everything.
Cheers,
Jashby
