Flashlight for when building underground

Frontier, can we please get a flashlight button for when building underground?

The idea is that you'd have a little button off to the side of the screen (maybe under notifications?) or down in the bottom bar (maybe next to time of day?) that behaves like the flashlight on a smartphone. Click it and a flood light or spotlight will be invisibly attached to the camera to light up what you're looking at. You can then work underground or within caves without having to place work lights. This is different from the way it worked in RCT3 since the light is attached to the camera and not the mouse cursor.

I've been working on a park that has an underground section for a roller coaster and log flume. This requires space for exhibits and animatronics off to the side of the track. Hollowing out these spaces can be impossible in the dark. I tend to use the generic spotlights or the sci-fi flood lights to help me see. These work lights get removed when I'm done. It would be a lot easier if I could just toggle a light in front of the camera. Getting the work lights into position can be tedious, especially with ride collision boundaries limiting positioning.

Anyone else think this is a good idea?

That would be a great feature! But for now I just use several area lights (building menu) and it lights up everything. No more dark cave [wink]

I agree! I came here to ask about a headlamp or point source light. I'm currently trying to expand an underground tube ride to have some nice lighting and scenery, but it's impossible to see the terrain that is being modified without some kind of light, and I can't place a light because the auto tunneling doesn't leave enough room to add them.

It could be part of the "set light" menu that's already available. This would make building underground much much more fun and interesting. I wouldn't even care if it just lit everything in view to 100% or something. Just being able to see what's going on would be great!

I agree. It would be interesting to have a "lantern" option while building underground, so you do not have to place temporary lights in the tunnel.

That would be cool. I ended up creating a blueprint with a bunch of lights that I can move around and duplicate so I could see when making dark rides.

I uploaded it to the workshop if don't want to create one yourself.

It's a bit cumbersome and having a feature you can turn on which would light up things in the view would be better.

Best of luck in this great game!

Agreed! Even with the daytime light it's still hard to see what you're doing without putting down lights. I would love this feature, it would make terraforming and building underground way more enjoyable. Please make this happen Frontier!

Would it be feasible to add a light to the cursor activated by a keybind? That way you could check the darkness level when building underground.
