Flat Rides Toolkit

If there is a certain ride we want, we either have to make or use a fake version, substitute a similar working ride, or hope and pray Frontier makes it in a future DLC.

Yea, but of course, Frontier will probably cut the support for PC and I think it´s already happening. So as one of the last updates, it would be nice to actually give us some more tools, so we can keep the game alive...

I hope they give us two or three more ride packs though before they throw in the towel. There are so many more rides they could add that would work with the limitations of the game. 3 packs would be 30 rides. There’s still activity on steam. The game data was updated again in November. Why so much activity if no DLC is coming soon? Maybe they are working on content for a future DLC but don’t want to admit it yet.

Jesus just wait for an official announcement! You've seen the community managers confirm stuff is still being worked on for Planet Coaster in other threads, so just be patient with them. Something will come when they're ready!

I don´t agree it would hurt DLC sales. I mean, now, we probably can´t expect much more DLCs so it would be nice to have such a tool so we, as a community, can keep the game alive. And yes, it might be complex tool, quite hard to lear. But I don´t buy this argument as a reason for not releasing the tool. I mean, this community has definitely very smart people among it who would enjoy the challenge. And it could even bring more people on board, as there are those who are exactly looking for such a challenge. Anyway, I cannot name single game that was hurt due to modding tools being released publicly. I can only name countless of games that were a huge success and sales got even boosted. And some of these games is alive for many many years, even today. Mods = more profit.

The thing is flatrides were developed using patented physics metering algorithms to replicate the EFN of those rides for the guests happiness.

To implement a rides toolkit would mean deep analysis of each and every submission, adding in sounds.

Sure there are smart people that can do this, but I think it would harm the fidelity of the game if all of a sudden I can DL half developed rides EFN stats all over the place. I don't think it's warranted or req'd to make the game fun, it would be such a niche tool that very few would be able to master. Asset development is different.

Parkitect may be simpler, but they released a flat ride tool allowing users to create their own flat rides. And it has been done in RCT2 and RCT3. But Planet Coaster is one of the only game that is not bound to a grid that is a full simulation with people, etc. Theme Park Studio was another, and they had a flat ride tool, but I don't think that game ever had a future.

TPS was a project led by a single developer, and TPS always had a different goal in mind.
It's hard to compare it to PlanCo, i actually know the dev behind Theme Park Studio.

I also know a fair bit about content creation and it would be near impossible to make a custom ride in PlanCo on your own.
I wouldn't, even if the possibility existed. No matter how precautious you are in your attempt, it WILL result in instability to the game itself.

And with RCT3 being brought up. Yes it was possible to do that in RCT3 but what people often forget is how unstable RCT3 became with all the mods.

While I fully accept that the flat ride mechanics are a lot more complex than RCT3, I really don't understand why we haven't even seen a simple mod yet, like to put the "David Braben" cheat in the game to increase the chain lift speeds to higher speeds so we could emulate launches on coasters that don't normally have a launch. Or something like CoasterAnarchy in Parkitect where ALL limits are lifted. Shouldn't it be as simple as changing a value in the code?

I love PlanCo, but sometimes I do question how much Frontier actually listens to their fans. If they want Planet Coaster to have good staying power, maybe they should listen to us more.

There have been Mods, that weren’t released because they weren’t ready. And since the Game got updated reasonably frequently they kept breaking. I’ve heard from reliable sources that reverse engineering what was necessary to do that took a very long time and wasn’t easy. Right now, that Person isn’t doing any modding for the Game though.
