Flawed focus crystals?

These are apparently found "in signal sources" and are contained in "combat vessels". Their only use is in Level 2 and 3 KWS speed upgrades.

However, I have visited all sorts of combat zones and combat Aftermaths, as well as all the other varieties of USS, and in all sorts of systems in all manner of states.

I haven't seen one. Pretty sure before 2.3, when these had no purpose, I threw them out regularly. Roguey and EDDB are no help here either.

What am I missing? (Besides flawed focus crystals)

Try conflict zones, that's where I get mine from, anything that says "found from combat ships" conflict zone are a sure bet, grab a collector limpet controller and away you go. Good luck commanders O7.

Ugh sorry I didn't see you already tried conflict zones. That's weird because that is where I get them reliably, may not be every ship i destroy maybe every 3rd or 4th. I remember a battle cow (type 9) dropping them in a high intensity conflict zone the last time I got one.

I'm finding tons of focus crystals and refined focus crystals, but not a single flawed.

I even had several days inside an ALD "crime sweep" CZ where I used a collector to scoop absolutely everything available, and I got zero flawed focus crystals.

However, CZs were the least visited of all the locations since USS were specifically mentioned, so I'll try again.

I found that out after I posted this. Imagine my disappointment. Lol

Combat Aftermaths revealed zip. Lots of Conductive Ceramics though. I'm sure there's some stupid combo of "Combat Aftermaths in white dwarf dictatorship in retreat" that I'm not hitting.

Just picked one up in an independent state in boom encoded emissions & 3 more from an encoded emission in an empire state boom extract/industrial

Go to low intensity res sites the lower ranked pirates drop them like candy. I practically choke on them when i hunt in Haz res sites after killing anything smaller than a viper.

I think I'm going to give this hunt up for a while. I tried a low res and saw nothing but regular focus crystals. All of the Encoded Emissions USSs I hit last night were losers. I even saw a Combat Aftermath that insultingly threw standard Focus Crystals in my face.

Hours and hours- ZERO FFC. A common material.

So I gave up. I can't take any more mental imagery of a trollface meme in a Hawaiian shirt and cowboy hat with a black and white sock puppet wrapped around his neck; it's maddening.

Instead I'm working on buttering up the Yoru Party to unlock Nemo, my last engineer. He's not the least bit useful; I'm just mad that he has a Cyber Party Base and I've never been invited.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, on a side note try out the double shot frag cannon mod, its to much fun.

Geez did I throw out a peck of those crystals.
There is a planet somewhere that you can get chemical manipulators by going to an unmarked base. There they have lots of flawed and regular crystals.

Found the planet via you tube, under search for chem manipulators.

Got a few of those from Blaster ;). Just level 2 or 3, but that's like complaining Little Boy was only 1.5 kilotons.

Edit: Partying at the Party Base, and just put 4 G4 incendiaries on a Cobra... WOW. Forgot how much fun. It's like an anti-fighter bug spray can. So I take it back; not useless.

I have 3 large double shot frags on my python, it does tremendous damage. Also its fun turning small ships into swiss cheese with a single volley.

I went back in my 500m/s FAS for some alternate options to the APAs she usually mounts. Class 3 magic. I paired them up with thermal vent beams to control heat.

I wasn't as thrilled by them before because I had them on far less mobile platforms, and the lower grade of engineering lowered the range too much.

High mobility + higher damage and burst count is a monster, and a new way for me to fight, which is always appreciated. 07

I'll look (been wanting to go there anyway) but at this point I'm thinking it's a bug. I spent hours and hours today in an ALD Crime Sweep (powerplay CZ) and got lots of merits, but there wasn't a single Flawed crystal. Tried everything suggested in this thread over the last week, in fact. Lots of regular and refined, zero flawed. That smells buggy to me. It could be that they're there, but mislabelling as focus crystals. I added my complaint to somebody else's bug report. I doubt it merits an actual ticket.

I remember sessions of Destiny where I'd spend hours in a Nightfall or raid with no special ammo while my squad had no troubles. Pure P2P instancing error; logging out, rebooting and rejoining the fireteam would fix it. Sadly, there's no workaround like that here.

It's not a deal breaker though. I don't need them for level 4 or 5 upgrades; it's just that I liked the speed boost, low mat cost and better range of the grade 3, but I hadn't​ crafted any A rated KWS with my previous stock of FFC, just B's. But with no more FFC in sight, I just did a couple of A rated G4s. I don't have enough mats for 5s.

And I wanted to try a fast scan DSS from Lori Jameson next door, rather than Tiana Fortune all the way down in Achenar. I forgot to bring one with me on the KWS run. Basic laziness. I'll go back on the way out of the bubble next trip. I'm pretty happy with the long range DSS, too, so no biggie.

I've done so much engineering in ED, I'm surprised it took this long to hit an actual full halt snag in mat gathering, lol.
