Having another think about transferring half my ships to Colonia... again.

I'd like to take them on an FC, just so I can say I've done it but also for economic reasons.

First question is, having bought an FC, how much do I get back if I decommission it?
The FAQ says "A percentage of the cost is refunded to the player once decommissioning is complete."
This isn't very helpful.
Do I get Cr10 back, Cr10m or do I get 90% of the purchase price, like I would with a ship?

Similar thing with modules bought for the FC.
Can I sell the modules before decommisioning the FC and what do I get back?

Thing is, it's probably going to cost me several billion credits to fly to Colonia and then transfer my ships so buying an FC, loading my ships onto it, flying it to Colonia and then flogging the FC before flying home in my Annie might be more economical - depending on what I get back after decommissioning the FC.

Second question is, how can/should I configure an FC to make the trip as painlessly as possible?
Obviously, I'm going to need a shipyard on the FC to transfer my ships to it, but what else?
Can I, for example, buy a bunch of Tritium storage tanks and then buy enough Tritium to make the journey without having to stop and mine it?

While I haven't sold my FC myself, you should get at least 90% of the money back from memory, possibly more.

You can load up Tritium in the FC storage (transfer on your ships cargo screen), so you can carry way more than you'll need to get to Colonia.

You don't need to buy a shipyard. You get your own ships and your own outfitting for free.

It should be way cheaper to transfer your fleet this way.

Also it sounds like you should be able to sell any extra Tritium to players once you get there for a profit, which will likely cover anything you lose from selling your FC.

I would look for a CMDR who flies their FC there anyway and haul the ships to Colonia that way. I've already seen people on here and on reddit advertise their planned departure. In fact, that's exactly how my Alt recently got his small fleet to Jacques.

Yep, I realise that.

I'd like to do it for myself, though, just for the yucks - rather than transferring a bunch of ships to somebody else's FC and then spending a week (or whatever) watching cat video's on Youtube.

You have reminded me, however, that I need to load my alt-account aboard my FC before I leave.
Would I need extra facilities to allow "somebody else" to dock on my FC?

Hm, that's for somebody else to answer. Like @CmdrZaratan said, you don't need shipyard or outfitting and still can store and even change / outfit your ships and modules on your own FC. The dedicated FC facilites only allow you to "buy" new modules from stock and aren't necessary for that. But if that's also true for guests on a carrier, I'm not quite as sure of, although it would make sense.

If your alt has multiple ships plus equipment, you'll need to install shipyard and outfitting modules also. In the unlikely event your alt has one ship and no extra gear he can just dock at the FC without needing those FC modules installed.

However the upkeep cost of the extra modules will be somewhat trivial given the amount of time you'll be paying it for.

There are some FC owners on PC who use nav computers to get their carriers back and forth between Colonia and the bubble. Only takes about 15 hours done this way. You'd miss out on the "yucks" but you wouldn't have to endure the ever increasing number of ads that YouTube seems to have.

You could then get your main and alt accounts (plus any other other ships* and modules**) to Colonia overnight for free.

* if the FC has a shipyard
** if the FC has outfitting

My alt only has one ship. :p

I've been RPing as a "refugee" who plans to settle in Colonia.
I've had to buy ships and do stuff to unlock engineers & pin blueprints prior to going but when I do go it's going to be "one man and his Krait".

You only need a shipyard and outfitting if you plan to bring passengers with modules and extra ships. Fuel burn will be around 3400 tonnes, unless you are hauling a huge amount of cargo to Colonia, then expect a max fuel burn of 5500 tonnes. You can sell the shipyard and outfitting and get all your credits back on arrival.

Any idea of what I might expect to get back for decommissioning the FC, itself?

As I said, it's probably going to cost me around Cr2.5bn to transfer my ships to Colonia so if I can get back roughly that amount (or more) for decommissioning my FC I'll be happy.

Honestly, I can apprecate the idea of transporting stuff to Colonia and then selling it to recoup my costs but it's not something I really want to bother with.
I'm not in ED to play "Open All Hours" in space.

Thanks for that as I am also thinking of getting one. What about Repair, Refuel and Armory? Can the owner use those without having to have them "Online"?

You get back everything paid except what you may owe in fee's.

Don't forget to unlock and rank up with Elvira Martuuk, The Dweller, Liz Ryder and Todd McQuinn before going to Colonia. You need invites from those for the Colonia Engineers.
Also you can gather the mats for three of the Colonia engineers from the Bubble, load into the cargo bay of your FC before heading there. Buy 200 units of progenitor cells from stations, mine 10 tons of osmium, and farm 25 units of occupied escape pods (from the SRV wreckage site near the crashed Bug Killer).

I can’t answer on decommissioning as I’m still merrily using mine but would certainly recommend combining shifting your fleet to Colonia with trying one out for the first time.

I think we ended up being pretty well mollycoddled by FDev in the end with FCs after the Beta. If you’ve got the credits to purchase one I very much doubt you’ll lose much in terms of credits. Plus, the cost of Tritium in the Bubble is cheap enough to buy way more than you need so you can sell for a daft profit in Colonia, easily enough to cover a potential short fall I’d have thought. If you’re lucky I’ll be out there filling up.....I’m lazy, rich and in a hurry to leave again so have spent 800 million credits filling mine up from other Cmdrs. No need for the ‘Open All Hours’ grind. :)
