Fleet Carrier - Holding Compound

Set up a system with an outpost for admin and Park carriers showing no activity here ( effectively take them out and put them in storage ). It would be an easy thing for ED to monitor player access to the game and use of the carrier. If not log its jumps and specify that it must jump at least once every 'n'' period of time or or last account transaction no activity will be considered abandonment.

A player wishing to reclaim his/her carrier would have to go to the system to recover the carrier, where they would receive notification that due to no activity the carrier had been designated salvage and moved to the compound. All assets currently on the carrier are impounded pending reclamation cost being covered (Covert Fine).

Notification was issued at the time on reclamation with a 12 month period given before the assets are auctioned off or decommissioned.

They could put all the unused FC at wolf 359 and us trekkers could "role play" that they where destroyed ships from a famous (to trekkers) battle :)

Another way of doing it would be to allow thargoid damage to carriers, inactive carriers could be attacked by thargoid strike forces.
If damage control is not administered in n period of time the carrier explodes.

Yeah, suggested that a few weeks back ;)

It all depends what problem they are trying to solve with the decommissioning:

1) Unused carriers jamming up popular systems : Thargoids won't solve that as they aren't near Colonia - so they could 'clean' the bubble but the RPers would go crazy if they started attacking FC in Colonia because ... lore
2) Just too many FC : in which case you want to attack any unused FC - and you (sadly) don't see Thargoids in deep space

And you still have the basic problem that people don't want their stuff removed while not playing - while adding a more in-game reason for it happening would be cool it would not stop the daily threads 'where haz my stuff gone?'.

And should there be a fee to reclaim it, I think yes.
I like the idea rather than losing it

Maybe reclaim from any place you can buy them from

Best stick with the holding system then ..

Also suggested that a while ago ;) Tionisla would be a good one as it's supposed to have a ship graveyard already. Issue is that if they have limits on the number of ships in a system then that would apply to a holding system ...

Not really, they could effectively take them offline in to a holding tank on the server which could then be accessed for recovery.
It should be simple enough for the dev's to put in a database to store all the defunct ships without actually having to show them in a system, just a front office for the interface.

Yeah, but not what you suggested:

Set up a system with an outpost for admin and Park carriers showing no activity here .

You're now making the old suggestion 'allow people to resurrect their FC when they come back'. I'm sure they considered it, but haven't shared why they didn't like it AFAIK 🤷‍♀️

Not really, they could impose a time limit on it as long as they are up front with the details of how long that limit is.
In my opinion they could do the same with defunct accounts, mothball them for a specified period and force a reset if you exceed that period, in all fairness it could be a long period. Players in real life do actually die in the real world, these would get removed because nobody would be there to respond.
It's just a way to remove clutter from the servers.
