Fleet Carrier VS System.

Is it just me or is it a little odd that a fleet carrier is 5billion credits. While you can go claim a system and earn from it for 25million? I mean one is a ship. The other is a permanent ingame mark on the starMap.

A while back I heard talks about fleet carrier prices would drop down, but so far still nothing. But to be honest those prices are way off. It should be the other way around.

What are people's thoughts on this subject?

Carriers can move, that means you can make money from it. If it's possible to build a fixed storehouse on a planet, I swear it won't cost much.

I expected that if we ever got base-building, a base would be a lot cheaper than a Carrier (unless it was really big) as it doesn't jump, but we'd be limited to one base per player. Or maybe one per player plus one per squadron, with the squadron base size based on the size of the squad (so that a one-person squad would only get a tiny extra base).

I definitely wasn't expecting the ability to build multiple bases in multiple systems. And while I'm OK with the quantities of materials needed, I also wasn't expecting them to be so cheap. Not sure what to spend my billions on.

You're renting warehouse space, a large FSD (of newer technology by the way), excessive landing pads, the ability to contract for services on the carrier, all the while not having to lift a finger to contribute to building the thing.

Versus

You're renting a construction ship to build the initial station, and delivering a huge amount of cargo, then it leaves and has no further contractual obligation to you. Carrier is a perpetual lease that you command. the construction ship is rented like a Uhaul.

I did think it was funny when I saw the colony claim price was 25mil, I thought heck I've got ship power plants that cost 6 times that! You could cash 1 in and get the funds for 6 colonies. :) No biggie though I don't think it impacts anything negatively. Idk the FC cost I think is fine, the 5billion kinda requires a dedicated effort and probably helps curtail the amount of FC's in the game. Probably doesn't curtail it much, the availability to acquire credits is plentiful, and once you are able to generated 5billion credits the upkeep cost is almost a non factor.

A Fleet Carrier with just the basic (Rearm, Refuel, Repair) costs only about half a billion per year to maintain. When you buy your Fleet Carrier, just allocate half a billion to the Carrier's account and you won't have to worry about it for a year.

You can earn a Fleet Carrier in only a couple of days if you work with the Pilots Trading Network and already have about a Billion in the bank for a trading investment. It works out to about 4 BN every two days or so. Do a couple of cycles (call it a week) and you have a quick 8-9 BN in the bank. Pay 5 for the FC, put another 1 BN in the Carrier's account (good for 2 years unattended), and you'll still have about 2-3 BN in "walking around" money.

Then, you can use your FC as a hauler for colonization or even just as a long distance transport for your fleet. I got completely maxed out on ALL my Mats in only a couple of days by visiting several G5 Brain Tree sites well outside the bubble. One FC jump to get there, one FC jump to get back. Trade all the G5 for lessers and then another trip out to the black to top off on the G5's just spent.

The FC hauls your fleet everywhere, it can haul them 500 LY in a single jump, it can haul them far out INSIDE a single system (like 400K LS) in that same single jump, and it can move over 24,000 T while doing all of that.

The FC is truly a game changer!

I would have purchased a FC a long time ago, if it wasn't for the upkeep, forcing me to connect and fill the bank regularilly is a no-go. Upkeep for FC is also one of the reasons for all those empty (all services disabled) FC's floating around, which are totally useless, very frustrating when you dock to basically an empty box over and over .. not pâying upkeep is like: if you're not present everything stops .. (if the boss of a RL shop leaves, the workers keep on working, until a new boss arrives .. they keep bringing in money, as they should.) Why can't it pay for itself ? Owning a System (trailblazers) you pay 25 million, do the work and it pays itself back afterwards, you won't see them '"disabling services" .. in the end, you pay 7 billion for a mega ship, and you have to keep filling the money reserve (it's not about the small amount, it's about beïng forced to connect to the game just for that) .. well I can't get the point. Surely there's something wrong in the economical system of the FC ? Or maybe I simply don't share the Devs perspective on the matter. (I'm not an economist, but ..)
Lowering the purchase price of the FC is totally not the point, on the contrary, when you get to billions in this game, you just diserve to be able to buy a FC .. it's a reward, you have to get there. Now I'm sitting on billions, like an old dragon. theh ..
