Might not be useful to you, but an empty box holds a lot of cargo.

Also, you can see what services are available in the system map before you dock.

I agree, not usefull to me as I could do everything without it, and for some commanders it's probably is handy. To me it's like renting a safe in the bank, but then you have to buy the bank first : D (I'm not docking to FCs any longer, even trip to colonia was done without them. But thanks for the tip on the system map.)
