Fleet carrier wormhole stuff

Ability to follow your FC in your ship through the wormhole. This would make the jumping sequence less wall-ey.
The FC should be able to create a wormhole at your position within 500 ly that jumps to the FC.
All the playstyles would benefit from a return to home ability that could be considered end game.

There is no jump, there is no magic hearthstone, this is a sci-fi game based on certain rules, not WoW based on magic, so we follow the rules of the pretend physics otherwise the entire thing becomes broken.

Let's clarify the wormhole thing. The Fleet Carrier doesn't go through anything when it moves, yes you see a lot of smoke from the outside and the illusion of it moving into a wormhole, but that's all smoke and mirrors, in essence moving the Fleet Carrier is a database change and when it moves it just dissapears from one location and re-appears in another, all the noise you hear inside and the sights you see outside are just window dressing on a database update. You can't follow it because it's not actually moving and any database update for the FC can't possible encompass the same thing for what are essentially exterior objects.

Now the wormhole things? How do explain that without making it available from any station or megaship for any player? Indeed it's just straight out magic and a bad fit for the game, that's not going to happen because there's no basis for creating remote witch space tunnels in the ED universe.

Also, there is no end game to Elite Dangerous, that's what creates all the complaints about grinding, people who think they have to grind to get endgame stuff and when they get there they find it's just stuff, nothing special, just a big expensive ship that costs them money to maintain and move.

The wormhole technology is available to stations its just not under player control. I’m proposing you can either follow your FC(this changes nothing other than making the jump sequence a more interesting experience than we have now) or a return to base ability. There’s a high chance of emergent gameplay springing up from this.

Let me guess: your carrier jumped without you, either because you missed it or because of a bug. 😇

No, there's no fit in the Elite Dangerous Universe for remotely created wormholes and they can't create a more interesting experience because, for the second time, there is no jump, they don't move, it's just, vanish->reappear in a new location. ED is sci-fi based, and the only way to create a good sci-fi experience is to establish rules and follow them, this is how all good sci-fi works, films, books, games. Sure in a game with magic you can just wave a wand and disappear in one spot and reappear in another, that's essentialyl what you are trying to do here, introduce magic hearthstones into a sci-fi game.

And let's not start with the emergent gameplay stuff, that's what the gankers use an excuse to just blow everything up.

Do you mean a "wormhole" that remains after the jump, leaving an open door?

So a sequence of placed fleet carriers placed in a nice neat row would allow ships to travel across the galaxy in quick hops from one FC to the next?

Silly isn't it? 🤪

Probably the "wormhole" will not last very long, still 45 carriers all jumping in sync could provide a highway of wormholes for a steam of ships to reach Colonia in minutes.

Edit: this is still doable currently, but much harder to sync since it would require a rolling jumping system and 45 carrier owners willing to participate and position their carriers accordingly and jumping them at very precise timers.

Forget it - it will be slower than actually flying a ship to Colonia

This could be expanded upon and with careful consideration could be a good reason to own a carrier for many play styles.

You would need 5000 FC to visit Stargate Atlantis. But for sure a set of FCs could make bridges to Milky Way satellite galaxies. If they were generated.

If other Fleet Carriers were allowed to follow through then a set of FCs could leap frog themselves across the galaxy at a tremendous rate. The cooldown period can be effectively skipped. Its probably not a good idea for gameplay purpose.

with all free accounts available etc, I do not see any big challenges to automate this... ie opening the the "hole" on a schedule

There are two main issues that can be tricky.

1. You need to deal with the Galaxy map, even though bookmarks should make it easier.
2. How do we refuel the Fleet Carriers... but if we should trust the players complaining about massive botting problem in the BGS, then we could add ships that automatically donates/sells fuel around the route, as this would be the same thing as what the bots are accused of doing, go station, buy stuff, fly next station (fleet carrier in our case) and sell stuff.. (ie donate fuel) and repeat..

Anyway, if a large enough player group decide to do this, I am fairly certain they will manage todo this...

I am so distracted by your avatar. +1 for that.

When returning to a station after ship destruction, you are being taken back by Search and Rescue. - obviously so in Odyssey.

Without the correct guidance system, you can't traverse Witch-space safely. If you were able to follow your FC, you'd be lost with no way out or dumped out in some unknown place, turned inside-out for one of us explorers to find by chance one day. Maybe.

The Lore has always required ships to travel alone, or inside another ship.

Plus the wormhole isn't like Stargate, it's opening a hole into Witch-space, travel through Witch-space and opening a hole at the other end. There's a passage of time, in fact in Elite II: Frontier you could jump ahead of someone as larger ships took longer to traverse Witch-space.
