Fleet Carriers and Exploration Options?.

I am struggling to find a good reason to use a FC when out exploring other then selling exploration data when out.
You really only need one ship when out, without a FC slowing you down. When out exploring on my way to Beagle Point one of my biggest Joys was to find a poi to land at each night. Each poi that I spent the night at was always different and had beautiful views. You can set up a exploring ship to repair all components and hull but the power plant. Taking an FC out exploring for me would be like dragging an anchor along.

Now if you can do mining when out and remotely send resources back to the bubble and sell via npc pilot would be a game changer.

It occurred to me last night that exploration will change now. Because, once you have jumped 10000 Ly, or where you want to be with your fleet carrier. Your exploration ship can now sport full on decent shields and any other guff you want. As it morphs into more of a short range explorer instead. Travelling 1000 Ly or so until you retreat back to your carrier.

The jump frequency and refueling time will be interesting...

Yes, for example... Upon completion of refuelling your FC, (which could take hours or days...months) you enter the galaxy map to select your new destination (which is how I understand we will initiate jumps) and if that jump takes place immediately upon hitting enter with visuals ensuing at full blat once the galaxy map is closed. ..All will be well.

If, however, we have to wait 24hours. Then there will be no spoon.
I’m sure the good people at Frontier have enabled the real spoon version. And have confirmed FC jumps are not dependent on the tick. But didn’t confirm there was no tick attached somewhere. Hourly, daily, or otherwise

So far it seems that most of you are assuming that it will be a fixed 500ly jump. I was asking if it would be possible to jump the FC into the next system for example. If it is only 500ly jumps then you could make Elite in exploration in an afternoon probably which in my view defeats the whole object of exploring a galaxy or more. Also my question about various self owned ships onboard means that my Corvette is in the garage praying that 16 pirates will attack me on the way home with all that cargo and info etc.

I'm thinking it should be possible to carry enough fuel for multiple jumps, even if the carrier isn't capable of storing the fuel. Ships are going to be able to carry cargo whilst on the carrier - otherwise what's the point? - so simply fill up a T9 with the fuel, then feed it to the carrier after each jump. You'll still have to spend whatever time it takes to fill the T9, but the jumping itself would be pretty much constant.

Anything to help make these things move more is most welcome.

Here's a thought, maybe we have to have a module on our ship to enable remote access to our carriers...
I think that is a fairly terrible idea but since we've got modules for enabling different types of autopilot functionality* and so many limpet controller modules** I wouldn't be at all surprised..
Oh dear.

* I feel this is a travesty.
** One controller please: Limpets as ammo, basic controller for all options at low capability, dedicated controllers (like now) add ammo and/or improved capability.

Carrier Controller Limpets confirmed!
