Fleet Carriers completely useless for big jumps.

I been finding since the CG have came back most fleet carriers are completely useless for helping players get to CG faster, with less fuel also it seems like when we get to the cg system the fleet carriers are either don't have the material needed or its marked higher than the CG station which makes it a loss. This is most likely another attempt to disrupt the CG game play. Most players can load all that material on to their fleet carrier and complete the CG faster making them go faster than ever, and make the CG not last until the end of the week like they are supposed to. I almost ran out of fuel getting to the last CG, where are the fleet carriers to help with long journeys. Most fleet carriers I dock at to see if they where going to where i wanted always had no course set. People are treating the fleet carriers like pets or extra personal inventory, and not really using them to the full effect. The other half of them are being decommissioned or the services are suspended. I wish there was a way to request a fleet carrier to jump to location, or maybe a jump assist button that will allow fleet carrier to open up a 500 light year jump window that your ship can go through, I also think smaller ships should be able to follow the fleet carrier through the jump window because I never seen a fleet carrier arrive without a escort anywhere in any show or computer games.

the whole concept of waiting for 15 minutes for jump, (which also costs you tritium btw...) makes FC owner to think twice before actually go jumping with the FC rather than just taking e.g. an engineered anaconda (or aspx or anything with the range of at least 50ly) which can cover the 500ly range in 10-15 minutes and doesn't cost any tritium.
The most typical use for my FC is storing my ships and modules, storing some excess cargo. Sometimes I manage to manage things in such a way that while I go to fulfill a mission/grind/farm materials, I send the FC somewhere where I will be coming with the ship after fulfilling the mission, if I need to pickup some cargo from the FC or change to another ship.
Community goals are indeed ultra efficient with FC, that is a very valid point. I think they need to stack up additional targets to make the CG last more than a day.

Fleet carriers in most shows are used to jump low jump or sublight ships, and they don't go into the jump first they usually have fighters or a escort ship that precedes them, this way the fighters or escort ships can clear the area the fleet carrier is jumping into. Right now fleet carriers in the state they are is just overgrown movable player houses and bays to store their ships and modules. I find it a completely useless addiction, because the high cost of 5 Billion, precludes casual players from ever reaching that mark of money at all. Also, now that you can buy LTD from fleet carriers, if you check the third party sites that say where the carriers are at the data is at least 1 day or longer old. Fleet carriers can move too fast for EDDB to keep up or INARA. I found jumping to fleet carriers that are supposed to have though items listed are either not there or it was listed wrong or the fleet carrier has no cargo to sale or buy. Its completely stupid fleet carriers should be a more active part of the game, not some prize housing for high end hard core gamers that play the game every day of their life except when not working and their wife and kids threaten to leave them because they spend all their waking hours playing a game that realistically don't really have a place in reality except waste your time.

I am sorry to say this but my friend and I who have both played elite since it very first started will no longer play this wonderful game if the Fleet Carriers aren't fixed by EOB, next Friday.
We have talked at length about this and this our conclusion.

When fleet carriers came out in Beta the jump wait time was something like 45- 60 minutes. Can't remember exactly. Then Frontier changed it to 15. It made me smile.

I once posted a suggestion that the 6:1 ratio for trading high grade materials at a material trader was too much. I suggested 3:1 hopefully getting 4:1. Frontier did not change the ratio but was a good idea.

Maybe Frontier could change the dynamics of a fleet carrier as in jumping just as fast as any other ship, using hydrogen fuel, being able to scoop it from suns and park it next to an orbiting station. But there would be a cost. Are you willing to give up fleet carrier invincibility like every other ship? Maybe not.

For combat CGs, carriers are a boon being stationed near the CZs and allowing commanders to repair and rearm quickly.

Hauling CGs are another matter, I expect tier goals to be increased greatly to make the events last much longer.

Actually the Tier level isn't the problem, they will just circumvent the CG tiers by adding another fleet carrier storage ship, that only the captain of that carrier has access too. CG should last the whole amount of time weather the cap has been reached or not, because the CG don't last the full length many that can't play the CG right away miss out on the full amount of money the CG offer. Another problem increases fleet carrier jumps will just make EDDB or INARA even more useless.

I don't understand why they think they have to clean the game out of abanded fleet carriers, I am pretty sure the players could do that in the game, once a fleet carrier is abanded players should be able to claim the fleet carriers as salvage rights where they can take the fleet carrier to a ship graveyard and get a certain amount of credits or players could destroy it with regular weapons or use mining beams to collect scrap metal. See simple now you have a whole bunch of new areas to mine. This would only work with abanded or decommissioned fleet carriers. What about renting fleet carriers for a small fee for though that can't afford to buy them. Find abanded or decomissioned fleet carriers and put a salvage claim on it if your the first one to put a salvage claim your get control of the fleet carrier, you can send it to a shipyard in which it will than get put into the owners storage if abanded, which they can recall it by doing a recall, the second option is to do a salvage claim on it and you can than move it around, but won't have any other access to the features except for secure storage and docking rights to change. It would than say salvage claim rent and you would have to pay the 5 Billion to unluck the fleet carrier full potential. Or you can just destroy it with ship weapons, or you can mine scrap metal with mining lasers.

@ whiskey: Thumbs up for the ATARI Falcon030 in your image. I had one too between 1993 and 2013. :)

To add my 5 cents worth,
My carrier is MY property, I alone worked to earn it and I alone maintain it.
It is there for my convenience and no one else's.
For the most part it's usually outside the bubble, otherwise it will be in either a quiet, or unpopulated system, so as not to inconvenience other cmdrs.
If a Cmdr wants the perks that go with owning a carrier, then they should go buy one.
In terms of the CG's, even if carriers conclude their business quickly and jump out to restock, it's pure luck to get an open slot, so to all intents and purposes, it's basically impossible to ferry cmdrs back and forth to the CG.
At best we can jump to some nearby station.

Sorry, nearby system.

Meanwhile my British Petroleum carrier helps to fuel ships...

I didnt know mine was broken tbh?
I am wondering what is the problem with yours that needs to be fixed before the deadline?

Newsflash: I just heard that FD have just set a team of experts led by the office cat and gold fish on to it after a moderator passed on your message. With a bit of luck you'll be staying and if not, oh well you tried but goodbye anyway.(y)

I think you might find the office cat booked a late cruise holiday instead and you may need to consult the [MEOW] Lorenzo spreadsheet first as to his plans

Nobody remembers old Baz these days, do they?

I am sad face. Bazmeson, the Legend.

I don't care about fleet carriers themselves I just think they should have more use than personal toaught bags for hard core gamers.

That's basically what they are though, the equivelant of a carry all in a magic based game, that's all they were ever meant to be.
