Fleet Carriers: not a new speculation post, just a feedback request to FDEV on major points

Based on experience, I don't anticipate this will be well thought out or of any use to anyone, much less the Solo CMDR

I'm expecting another in a long line of development intensive non-events

Sorry for my pessimism, but just by the number of unanswered questions, I don't see much hope for FC's.

Bugs and unintended consequences will likely take a minimum of 6 minor patches after introduction, which are not likely to turn it into anything that I will want or be able to use.

YMMV - hope I'm wrong

6. do they overheat when maneuvering on planets?
7. does the res site security turn hostile on them for no reason
8. does it create connection issues
9. does it come with small seismic charges...

500 ly in an exploration specced ship is like 8 -9 jumps, so around 10-12 minute of play time. If it takes hours or days (as these will be balance for group play, not single pilots) to refuel for another jump I can't really see it being a must have for explorers whether you are in a squadron or on your own. And it it only holds a single ship (no ship transfer), its completely pointless.

It's not about the time it takes to get somewhere, it's about the fact that you can now jump to stars that are 500 LY away - which you can't currently do even in a neutron-boosted jumpConda.

Maybe not a 'must have' but certainly a game-changer for exploring the edges of the galaxy.

True, it just might take you 2 years as a lone wolf commander to get there, only to find a squadron has gotten there first. Damn.

Will carriers work on a bid-to-rent system, rather than outright ownership?

Not necessarily. If the rumour is true that materials will be needed to refuel a FC rather than docking (too big) or scooping then that would put the kibosh on exploration. Would anyone want to risk their shiny, new FC jumping to a system not knowing if there are planets with the required raw mats to refuel?
The destination system would not necessarily need to have the required materials - they could be gathered by players anywhere and deposited on the Carrier ion preparation for the next jump.

I would hope that any materials required to jump would be raw (rather than encoded or manufactured) as to do otherwise would needlessly limit the reasonable range of the Carrier - unless players were expected to travel to and from the bubble / Colonia to gather them....

I don't want to know all, but there are few things that are driving a lot of speculations in the community and I kindly ask FDEV to answer only to a few basic questions that would solve most of it.

1. Are Fleet Carriers meant for Squadrons only, or can they be used also by single players as a moving base for their own fleet?

They did explicitly say Fleet Carriers will not be for single players. Dunno about the other questions, interested to hear, doubtful we will any time soon. :p

I hope that has changed. If not I'll just not bother about them.

These are the two likely possibilities.
1) They will make sure the planned multiplayer content remains strictly multiplayer. Solo players will complain.
2) They will allow solo players to try and use it. Solo players will complain about the grind.

If people are seriously hoping to casually maintain a massive fleet carrier on their own I see disappointment in their future. ;)

1) What constitutes "strictly multi-player" in this context - given that there's no guarantee that more than one Squadron member will be playing at any given time?
2) Possible but so challenging as to be unlikely would be preferable to "impossible".

1) Strictly multiplayer means just that: strictly multiplayer. Not sure how I can write it any easier. One way to implement it is to simply have a minimum number of squadron members required to order/construct/buy a carrier.

2) I suspect it will be more 'possible in name only and flat-out impossible in any practical way for a solo commander.

We'll have to wait and see, but what they said earlier sounded pretty straight-forward as far as answers come.

1) Trivial to overcome - with sufficient players prepared to join a Squadron of any size to boost numbers to the level required - then leave once it is in place.
2) We'll see.

This isn't the solo players having Carriers thread.
Yeah I know. I thinks it's great that commanders will be able to work together to get to places nobody ever has done before. I wouldn't call it a massive game changer as at the end of the day those system will be just like any other unexplored system.
