General Flight Assist - terrain skimming.

Yep, set a flight deck of 50m 100m and just pretend you are flying a snowspeeder or magic carpet game the 90’sand just skim neatly over changes in terrain with too much concern.
Allowing for pilots to look around for tricky biologicals without fear of crashing.
Of course have caveats of boosting or doing an orbital gravitational dive.

I think the underlying issue here is that the SRV is a travesty and makes no sense. Just give us flying motorcycles like from starwars. Why would you have a wheeled vehicle in this stage of tech development. Driving them is SO discombobulating, the games mechanics don’t even make sense. The SRV has 6 independent wheeled legs, but you feel every single bump and jagged object like youre on skis. I am not trying to sound overly negative, I like driving around the little tank sometimes, but most of the time it’s just a getting stuck under my ship or randomly flying into the air because I hit a 6” rock at speed.

The SRV experience varies between CMDRs. Some like Alec Turner possess a mastery of the mechanics that make it look like a Sunday drive through the park. Others, like myself, end up spinning like a top when I roll over a pebble. While I did find it frustrating at first, I've come to appreciate the finer points of maneuvering through and over disagreeable terrain. The key is to resist the urge to max out the throttle like one does with a ship if the plan is to stay on the ground and coordinated. There is also an excellent infographic on the wiki that teaches you how to go about the business of rovering, but it does get a little more advanced so it will take practice.

using FA Throttle just means you flatspin a bit slower, it still does the same thing, meh
idk how we ended up with an open Diff + extreme Horsepower type experience in a space rover

I'll be the first to admit the experience feels more akin to riding an ATV quad bike at irresponsible speeds, but in reality that is exactly what it is. For reference, the Apollo rovers weighed in at just 0.21 tons and achieved a max speed of 18 km/h - or just 5 m/s on a surface gravity of 0.165G.

Yeah, ok sure, but they were made in 1971. I think by the time we go intergalactic we can do better than a Kirkland brand go kart. You see quad copters in the game constantly. Our 500 ton ships can produce infinite thrust that allows them to levitate. Even the SRV design shows 6 wheels on 6’ independently suspended legs. It’s called a Scarab to evoke the idea of the legs flexing to go over terrain lol Jesus Christ.

What you said, about the Apollo rover- thats the only reason for this mechanic to be like this - because it gives moon landing vibes. It is completely impractical even by contemporary standards, let alone in universe.

It’s just a bad game choice, it just is. I understand it being the first idea of how to get people onto the planets, but clearly it needs to change now that we can walk around.

My solution for bad flight skills is a bi-weave shield so it can save me and regenerate between crashes. Fly on 4 SYS pips for that damage reduction.
