Flight assist

I flew for about 1500hrs FA-off with KB+M and a lot of people do. There is no need to wait if you want to learn FA-off. The link to YT in my sig is my videos, I have a couple of vids on my KB+M setup that might help to give you some idea. Also feel free to jump on the discord as we try to help as many people as we can fine fun in FA-off.

Yes I am practising now. I think I need even more beginner than your Proficiency #1 video tbh.

What is it? Away from computer so can’t test it turned off. I heard people saying you need it off to fly the Cutter, what does it do exactly?

I fly FA On like 99% of the time. Inclusive when flying the Cutter (i have 2 Cutters on both of my accounts)
Using FA Off only when fighting Thargoid interceptors.

Yeah I can’t do it at all. I have even turned my mouse sensitivity right down. I am wobbling all over the place. I want to learn it though.

It's just practice; you'll get there :)
It's very much worth it. As I understand it, the relative mouse setting may help.

WOOT I just made a little flight and spun around and corrected myself. I understand it now. You are fine manually controlling the thrusts of your ship, so must counter-thrust any thrust. I don’t gets what’s happening with the speedometer though, I am still and it is saying -56?

Other people have told you the basics of FA/Off flight - it provides much greater manoeuverability if handled right, and takes a tremendous amount of practice to get used to.
I'll toss up a couple of videos - one about a guy who's just learning FA/Off flight (me lol) and one guy who is universally known for his FA/Off skill: Isinona.
It takes a lot of skill to develop, but when you get it it's a superb advantage.
Yup - I need to learn a LOT. :ROFLMAO: I'm all over the bloody place!
Now - watch Isinona: he's a bloody magician at the art:

Another Commander you should watch is one who posts here quite frequently: Katie Byrne.
Inarguably the finest AX fighter in the game, her accomplishments are legendary and she takes on the Thargoids with precise combined FA/Off and /On flying incredible to watch:

Hi I am practising! Where is the discord?

Ok I still don’t get what is going on. I need to be in this discord but I can’t see your signature, there is no signature on your posts. I need to ask what is actually happening in FAoff, for example, why I am flying in weird directions which aren’t forward, and what is going on with the speedometer

So a real maverick flies no FA! Got it lol. Will have to get practising :)
Dangit man - your attitude has impressed me immensely!

I went totally FAoff in 2017, using the following videos, which were made by "Hobbs" the founder of Newtons Gambit, the group Madrax is suggesting you join. I can personally vouch for them, they are very very helpful people, and Madrax helped me out a lot when I was learning.

Doing those exercises is a very zen thing, and as you get in tune with it, you feel something awakening within yourself. If I were only able to give anyone transitioning to FAoff one bit of advice, it would be "Feel, don't think"

And while I'm far from as cool as Liam Neson or the character Qui-Gon Jinn - I am available to PM if you want any help / advice etc. @Sanderling and myself jedi-mind-tricked a guy on here into going FAoff - the thread had a few good pointers, and might be worth a read: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/brain-re-wire-controller-setup.512156/

Hey Jay, if I recall correctly I think I got into FA Off all on my own....! You then so very kindly helped me out with a ton of advice, and that masterful Sanderling (o7 mate) ....maybe with a couple of sithy bits n pieces thrown in, sure! But I got there myself!! It was the droid I was looking for....

Long time no speak mate, hope all is good :)

I am making some progress. I can fly around a station, centre up and come to a stop. I can sort of tether at a slow part of the station but finding difficulty maintaining proximity and drift away from the station. But I now at least understand what is going on without Flight Assist
