Flight Controls

Sorry to bother, folks. I've been playing the combat demo a little. I have HOTAS controls, an OLD Saitek X35F and X36T set that I'm using. I seem to have a little calibration issue with my controls that I can't quite work out. Whenever I completely stop my ship, and let off the throttle and stick and the rudder axis underneath the throttle, it seems the ship likes to still turn to the right (starboard). I have the turn bound to the rudder axis on the bottom of the throttle, and when I look at the game controller settings in Windows, it appears the axis is more to the right when it is at rest. I tried to run the windows calibration, but it didn't help. :( Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me get my controller properly calibrated before the game launches, so I don't have issues flying around! Thanks!

Do you think it might be a deadzone problem?

I don't know. It's possible. I supposed I could fiddle with the yaw deadzone setting in the game so that it doesn't activate until I actually push it. It doesn't help that the controller is so old, there is no current driver for it that I'm aware of. :(

Is that a stick with hall sensors? If so, replug it with the stick really centered as it auto-calibrates on powerup.

With an x52 you can just unplug and replug the flight stick (no need to disconnect the throttle), which will also recenter it.

Do you lubricate the control mechanisms? Also check for dust build up. My rudders had a constant force to the left until I tipped them upside down and cleaned all the dust out. It was a desperate move bound in frustration no less but it actually worked - thankfully.

I used to have an old saitek that would stick quite often, wouldn't center properly unless I kept the spring mechanisms lubricated.

I have one of those somewhere in my attic - it's pots not hall effect and as they age, drifting is a real problem. They end up uncentered for mechanical reasons as well as electrical ones. Only option is to increase the deadzone until it doesn't drift.

I had a similar issue, stripped it down, got rid of the several tons of crumbs and crap, WD40, and now its fine, although I have replaced it I will use it as a back up.

Thank you very much for all the poitners!! Sucks that it probably won't re-center again, according to DaveB... but, oh well, I'll probably buy an X52 with my Xmas money anyway. :)
