Focused Pulse Laser are my weapon of choice

I am a bit shocked at all the people saying this build is "effective" and doing good hull damage. Tbh, this looked a slow motion kill that took about 3-4x longer than necessary.

You could get the same piercing benefit from slotting a single corrosion MC. And Turrets do gimp level damage that is pointless for anything except Long Range + Multicrew.

At the very least this guy should slap on a single ammo boosted corrosion MC so that the small and medium hardpoints could double dip on the penetration benefit.

I'll have to give the focused mod a go this weekend. I've actually switched my anaconda away from lasers completely, in favor of gimbled multicannons and frags (huge MC, 3 large s, medium MCs, and small seeker missiles). The huge MC has g5 rapid fire incendiary mod, and the frags are also incendiary. I forget the mods for the other MCs, but one is corrosive).

I was running a huge beam, but the frags do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to shields, and I like only needing one to two pips for weapons.

I tend to get close to targets whether I want to or not, so the frags suit my play style nicely, and they are really, really, efficient at taking shields down. I have a crew memeber in the SLF that is nearly Elite, so that balances out the frag's inefficiencies against smaller ships (but if you get close enough and hit a small ship with all three frags at once, its amazing how fast they go from being healthy to being an explosion).

I agree with you, but I’m just curious. What would you put on a combat focused anaconda? I mean, anything you put on an Anaconda is effective enough for most PVE, but I’m definitely looking for something more efficient.

I’m running a huge MC (corrosive g5 OC) and a couple of medium OC MC. The lasers are a pair of large efficient turret beams - mostly to kill smaller things up close, an LR large burst, and two small LR pulses (scramble). I was considering focused on the small pulses, but nothing else.

Armour Penetration doesn't increase hull damage. If anything, it decreases it because you get more often module damage.
The Sturdy and Focused mods are incorrectly worded. They alter penetration, not piercing.

can you link a screenshot of your focused/sturdy weapon details?
if you say that the mods do not increase the damage against the hull.

then the coriolis.io and EDShipyard outfitting page needs to be corrected, because they list the bonuses as penetration increase, which means an increase of hull damage against anything that has a harder hull then the base penetration of the weapon in question.

but then... i wonder if your understanding of the wording is wrong.

because to my knowledge, there is no blueprint that affects the "breach chance" nor "breach damage" of any weapon with its primary roll,
only "penetrator rounds" and "high yield shell" experimental effects do alter those two attributes, as far as i have seen yet.

and those attributes are the ones that relate to what you describe?

its looked a bit slow for my taste too.
tbh, a single corrosion small multicannon turret should be possible on any large ship. you get even the medium lasers to do more then full damage against large targets :D

I just thought about a mixed approach.
The huge pulse has already a high piercing value. Maybe it could be a good Idea to set it and maybe the large hard points too, to long range. the smaller hard points which suffer from more damage penalty because of the lower base piecing value should get focused instead.

I just went to the dweller and rolled a G4 long range with 7% DPS bonus. Wich was really cool.
But then I decided to give my already fairly good charge enhanced capacitor just one roll for fun... could be lucky... and that's what I got: :)

Mixing it up is my approach too.

Key benefit of focused is the piercings, which is useful for fighters with limited hard points to punch about their weight class (e.g. Vipers, Currier).

However, in my Cutter, I went with long range laser turrets to strip shields while I lose the turning battle and then overcharged incendary + corrosive multicannons for when I do get a fix on the target.

The large and hugh MCs have enough piercing for me.

since some bring in other weapons into the equation.

can someone explain me why i sometimes read about "focused" PAs ?

checking out the "benefits", i found not a single reason to ever "focus" or "sturdy" mod a PA
the highest "hardness" in game has the corvette with 70, and even the c2 PA already has 100 pierce

It’s my understanding that focused PA projectile speed is faster, making it easier to hit things.

Focused increases the muzzle velocity, range and damage fall off.
The idea behind the mod is fantastic but sadly the PAs don't get any meaningful bonus(or in most cases, any bonus at all) from extra armor piercing making the mod pretty much trash tier since it's just a inferior long range.
I would recommend efficient, long range or rapid fire; the latter is especially useful on medium PAs when used to apply effects like target lock breaker and/or dispersal field.

Sorry to rain on your parade OP but the video doesn't show anything impressive.
The damage against shields started being decent only under 1 km, the damage on the hull is honestly pretty bad and you should try long range/efficient or rapid fire to see which one suits your taste.
I love armor piercing and it's my to go mod on rails and missiles but they're support hardpoints so it's fine even if they're not min/maxed to deal the most damage but the truth is arm pen could use a buff.

P.S. it's true there's no need of a min/maxed comabat build to BH but yours sould be redone from scratch, there are way too many useless modules.

Focused doesn't increase the drop off distance.

You'd be better off with Long Range modifications.
Lmao do you even know how this game works
