Follow-up Post on the Community Requests to Frontier Developments

Many of you are probably aware that on 30th September a group of commanders posted a list of requests from the wide Elite community to Frontier Developments on Reddit. The post gained a lot of attention from both Frontier Developments and members of the community. At time of writing, over 2,700 people have signed the petition to support the ideas for how the future of Elite Dangerous could be improved via beta testing and bug fixing before live. Additionally, further topic support was provided by many thousands of comments in enthusiastic and passionate discussions on Reddit, forums, Twitter, Youtube, Twitch, and Discord.

Zac was invited to our Discord server and talked with us about the requests in last week’s letter. Together, we cleared up a few misconceptions between both parties about the core request topics and constructive conversation began quickly.

This is really good news! I am really happy that Frontier took positive and proactive action to work with the authors of this petition to address the problems that they identified. Good job Frontier! I am super excited to see what Frontier’s response will be in late November. It probably wasn’t easy for Zac to go into the hornets nest and engage those from the playerbase who were behind the petition. He deserves a lot of credit for doing so. Still this is exactly the outcome that many people wanted to see. Great stuff!

Does this mean I have to cancel the second stage of the protests?

I have 100 vegan pizzas inbound to Frontier right now......

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, talk is cheap. I'm glad Zac actually engaged, but Frontier have spoken plenty of empty words before.

Yeah, well they could have tried to ignore the whole thing and waited for it to blow over. They deserve credit for taking the feedback internally and even giving a timeframe for a concrete response. I signed the petition, but I also believe that Frontier ultimately does want what to do good by us players so when they get something right I am going to recognize that. It’s important to keep the relationship cordial and positive.

I mean we are essentially celebrating that they've "improved" communications by telling us they won't speak to us for another month........

I'd like to say well done but I think we've just moved from unofficially ignored to officially ignored?

I disagree. To me it is entirely reasonable for them to take their time when deciding what changes need to be made to the way the game is developed and tested. In that context the end of November is very reasonable in my opinion. To me this shows how seriously they are taking this. Let’s give them the time and space now to get this right.

You can be certain that Frontier got the message. This update was a huge catastrophe for them. It’s on them now to go and lick their wounds, fix what is broken, and get it right in December.

Ill never be convinced when frontier and community communications are involved but im glad you are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Until they start ongoing meaningful communication through their main channels e.g. the forum then ill maintain my view tuat their communication strategy is hopeless

Struggling to get on page 2 of this thread.

It's like people have already moved on and any response from the conference wasnt desired or needed.

Sadly it is human nature that the controversy and angst over the perceived lack of proper development for ED gets more attention than the positive result that came from the open letter. While Frontier obviously need to prove that they are going to make positive changes, applauding that first step is important in my view.
