???for FDev

First i want to thank you for creating this almost amaizing game, fully amaizing will be when atmo planets and rest of the planned stuff arrives.
I'm asking this cos i like the game and it's gameplay physics so it is really important to me and i believe for many others to know;
Are those kickstarter plans still active and do you work on them?
Here i mean on atmo planets(my priority) and legs(not so crucial for me but for others yes).
I'm not asking for ETA or details just are they still way to go.
It would be nice that you mention it sometimes in your interviews or news so community can know kickstarter goals are on it's original path.
Thank you!

Seriously some ideas worked and others didn't. Solo offline was suggested but turns out that it just wouldn't work as a network game. I guess the Devs and the Players learn from the advancements in the game but maybe that is a good thing. It is a new way of doing gaming no one has tried before. But if it eventually works you can be sure there will be others to copy what Frontier Development created.

Yes they are still planned unless technical considerations make them impossible; landing on atmospheric planets is already under development and has been for some time, walking is also still on the way but these systems will take time as they said they want to do them properly.

Frontier plan to develop ED over a number of years. When they sold the all season pass separately the price was £130, that pass was offered for sale in order that people paying up front could make savings over buying each season separately. I am sure you can work out roughly how many more seasons minimum they have planned for the future and we are still in the first season of updates.

If you would like to know more of their plans the design discussion forum from closed beta was archived and is still available for viewing. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/36-Design-Discussion-Archive Like anything those plans are subject to change but these are the sorts of ideas they have and would like to see included long term.

Yes, over a long term to many of the DDF discussions that were had.

Has much made it into the game so far from the DDF? (Honest question not a dig, as I haven't visited/read them for a long time)

Also, are any of the longer term goals (or direction) of the game planned to be shared at any point in the future? (Its been a long season and long time since any main announcements)

Thanks mate.

I just read the one about hyperspace. Some of it was implemented when the game first shipped. Some of the features concerning multiple ships jumping together were implemented when "wings" was introduced. So yes, they are still implementing features from the design documents.

IMHO DDF forum ideas will be considered when station FPS arenas and SRV football matches will get boring already.

FD will get to landing on planets with atmospheres, but it will probably take some time.

What they've done with planets without atmospheres is bloody amazing already. But David Braben has talked already in livestreams about actually putting life on these planets.

Have a think about what sort of planets with atmospheres you could have:

1. Atmospheric planets with no/trivial life without (like Mars)
2. Atmospheric planets covered with non trivial flora and fauna (like Earth without people)
3. Atmospheric planets with human breathable atmospheres covered with human life

I suspect they'll do these in three stages. Firstly, the atmospheric planets without significant life. There's two major things that need to be done there.

a. Adjusting the terrain generation to account for erosion etc. Note that atmospheric planets may have water (or other liquids) so rivers etc may need to be generated (perhaps planets without water could be done first).
b. Designing appropriate weather systems and graphics. This is based on surface temperature, atmospheric composition and density etc. Given the wide range of possible atmospheres this is a lot of work in itself.

To do just the above _well_ is a heap of work. To do it not well is less work, but I think David Braben wants to do it well.

And at that point, we haven't even added flora and fauna.

Adding plant life will probably be the next step. But you need realistic generation that reflects the atmosphere, the availability of water and sunlight, which generates and appropriate amount of foliage for different parts of the planet. Perhaps we also need to consider plant life that looks quite different based on the class of star, a spectrum more towards the infrared (cold star) or ultraviolet (hot star) may produce different sorts of fauna.

You can imagine, this is a huge job to do well.

Then we've got animal life. Not only do we have to generate appropriate animal life and a food chain that looks realistic, but the stuff has to move as well! Even more difficult than the last task.

And we haven't even got to human populated planets. These will have huge cities, but in many cases surrounded by less populated wilderness.

We're talking 20-30 years to do this all well. It'll come out very piecemeal. But what I'm sure about, based on Horizons planetary surfaces, when bits do come out FD I suspect will be at the top of the game across the industry in this regard.

thanks!
knowing atmospheric planets goal is still active is enough for me, i understand development needs time.
I hope simple atmo planets will arrive First, without lifeforms or vegetation, something like mars and later other complex things will be added.
i needed to Know that so i can support game even trought updates i don't prefer. Even your answer is restrained!
Answer to those things should be more available for players trought some kind of dev diary not revealing much.

i understand that players interaction mehanics can be changed due to learned ingame experience, but gameplay mehanics like atmo planets or legs are stable goals not likely affected by those changes.

that was while ago, mentioning it every now and than mean much for player base waiting for those features.
I understand that it takes time so probably 10years plan will become 14years plan, landing on planets already started with horizons and that is example of slowly implementing those features and i like that kind of approach same i expect with atmo planets, simple lifeless atmo planets First than over years they add lifeforms and rest complex things if that even possible with current tech to substain that amount of load(thinking on AI with complex pattern).

i understand that completly, like i said above lifeless planets like mars for start. it is possible, guys in infinity battlescape did it and looks amaizing.
To keep current variety of player base every season should cover all aspects, 2.0 landing on non-atmo planets, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 will cover combat and other things. there is still 2.4 so next season could start with simple lifeless atmo planets and the rest things covering other fields. every season adding complexitiy to existing one.

Sorry mate, that made me smile.

In 20-30 years we will fly our own spaceships eventually and David Braben will be 80 years old. :D
