For the future

As we know ED will be coming to XBOX and then PS4.

We already have the DK2 for PC however with Sony developing the Morpheus for the PS4 I would expect some amount of the development for the DK2 to be transferable towards the development for the Morpheus. I would like to know if the Morpheus is usable on a PC platform would ED be willing to allow the use of it on the PC game and not restrict it's use to the PS4. I would also like to know if FD consider it a good idea to stand with Sony and help them take this step of using the Morpheus on the PC for commercial reasons it would be silly for Sony to ignore a market.

I personally do not see the benifit of having two different types of VR kit in my Home. I desperately want to play ED in 3D however I am holding out for more details of the Morpheus to be released in order for me to make up my mind on which one I will get. I already know the DK2 will not be usable on the PS4 as I understand it it is only for PC use. Now I know most of what you cant tell me will be due to trade secrets but I would like to know if FD are willing to look at Morpheus on the PC for ED if it would be available?

morpheus can stay on ps4. going to look horrible anyways on an underpowered console..we got enough issues running vr on pc as it is...can't imagine on a console.

at the end of the day, games need to support openvr if you only want one headset. as of right now ed just supports OR

Considering how much ED seems to struggle with the Rift I'm anxious about how good the experience will be on Morpheus and the anaemic PS4. Many of us here have been chasing juddering issues of various types for a long time now. I can only hope that it runs great, and that whatever magic they pull to get the experience to run well on the PS4 is carried back across the PC afterwards.

As to your question about VR kits, if the Morpheus is to be locked to the PS4, your argument for not getting it over something else will be the fact that VR is computationally intensive and the PS4 is therefore severely disadvantaged compared to modern PCs, at least in apples-to-apples comparisons. I'd reckon Sony are unlikely to allow Morpheus to stray to PC, at least at first, because having VR on their console when Microsoft doesn't is advantageous to their platform, both because consumers will want the console for "just works" VR and the developers will have a nice, predictable platform to target for VR compatible titles.

The argument against the DK2 at this stage is that it won't be long (supposedly) before things like the HTC Vive and a new Oculus HMD arrive. In other words there are better VR kits coming so a DK2 is not a sound investment if you're caring about which HMD kit is 'best'. Personally I'd fork out for one and just buy the next when it arrives, and will probably collect upcoming HMDs as they start to hit shelves even though I'll have to be tactical about how to afford it, haha. But then I'm crazy. :)
