For the love of god, dev's please read this :-)

The problem is there are strong feelings on both side of the argument.

What this then means is that despite the topic having been posted over and over both sides still feel the need to weigh in to put their point across.

This then means we get yet another thread of arguing back and forth which goes on for 10+ pages, when we had exactly the same yesterday and the day before.

There comes a point where a line has to be drawn.

Yes you can say just ignore it but equally others can say go post your thoughts in one of the many many many threads on this exact topic.

And they had the right idea, shoot at a cop, they give you a stern telling off, ignore the cop and they blast you outta the sky. I don't even care about getting fined, fine fine me. But can we stop with the immediate wanted and try to kill me crap, just levy the fine for the first few shots in a given amount of time, after that come at me.

Nope. Fire and be wanted is fine. Teaches people to be less sloppy with trigger finger. The hold-my-hand folks door is thattaway, don't let the door hit your rump when you exit - or you'll be shot at.

Tanna,

I think you are getting a tiny bit confused between genuine police work and a 'GAME' called Elite Dangerous. Bounty hunting is part of the game. The AI doesn't actually have feelings either way regarding me stealing their kill (DEV's please pipe up here if i'm wrong.) I think you should go back and re-read my post more clearly. The pirating part really isn't the point i was trying to make. Whether i was stealing his cargo or just trying to kill him, my point is the same. There should be a bit of wiggle room regarding stupid stray shots. I'll leave the details for fixing this up to the rocket scientists who wrote the game. I do understand that it's easy to sit this side of the fence complaining, with next to no idea of what it actually entails to implement a satisfactory fix. So i do honk my space horn and flash my laser in respect for your hard work. If you don't want to fix it for everyone, just give me a special learner ship with plastic guns. I'd be happy then.

Thanks for listening.

Signing out.

What I'm saying is, you are about to pick up stolen cargo right in front of the feds. You're going to get scanned anyway (If the feds have any IQ, which you assume to be true). Why bother dashing it because you picked up a fine by shooting at them? Chances are you wouldn't get scanned again, so you could have picked up the cargo and then cleared off without much risk of another scan.

So all that talk about
'I have to assume that in this simulated universe, a pilot needs to be of a minimum IQ.'
was just waffle, because when I have done the same you have tried to belittle my comment with the remark:

I think you are getting a tiny bit confused between genuine police work and a 'GAME' called Elite Dangerous

So to sum up, you shot at the feds and then complained about the fact that this is a crime. It's a much talked about topic to which I reply the same every time. Watch where you shoot. Everyone knows exactly what will happen if you miss your target and hit another. It's a good, realistic mechanism.

If people keep moaning about it, chances are it will be changed, so while you have the right to make that opinion I also have the right to disagree, changing it would just further dumb down the game..

I've been doing some testing while bounty hunting about this whole security turns red even when i'm not hostile business. Its more fun than complaining on forums by the way.

One thing i've noticed is that when i've killed quite a few guys and my faction rating drops, i don't have to be hostile with that faction, but they turn red. Sometimes they will fire, sometimes not... don't have to be SA. Usually though they are red if they don't like me and MIGHT fire.

Needs more testing, but i'm not coming to the conclusion that it isn't necessarily a bug (in all cases), it may just be a cool feature that has not been documented yet.
