Now that the long-supercruise-distance bonus had been hammered, maybe take a minute to ruminate about all the salt on the forums/reddit. All FDev had to do when the bug was discovered is to creatively find a way to explain that it was all planned, that FDev actually intended players to make a lot of credits, very quickly. Like this (using the Rhea/LQ Hydrae situation as an example):
Simply and quickly create a GalNet article explaining that it was recently discovered that the star at Rhea system is expected to go nova at any moment and generous [money] emergency funding has been made available as an incentive to get lots of CMDRs involved with the evacuation of Rhea system. Trillions of credits made generally available in order to save billions of innocent lives. Then, later explain the scientists were wrong, there is no expected nova but thanks for the help. [up]
This would have glossed over the obvious bug as well as giving many CMDRs, especially newer CMDRs a great, short-term path to a decent amount of credits. It would also have pre-empted all the salty tears flowing in the forums about how FDev cannot/chooses not to kill major programming bugs but has nerf sledge hammers at the ready to destroy any decent money-making opportunities. Since (IMO) most people do not read GalNet I do not believe many more people would have gotten involved than did so. o7
PS: This points out how easy it is to get lots of CMDRs involved in a CG when they are offered a proper incentive. I would bet that more people got involved at Rhea/LQ Hydrae over the weekend than got involved with the "Thargoid Menace". Money talks, walks. I would also bet that if rewards were higher for "Thargoid" materials more CMDRs would get involved with that CG too. o7
