Engineers Forcing players to kill soft targets or cops for materials

Forcing me to destroy authority ships or scoop around in conflict zones is pretty much the biggest horse-doo-doo in Elite history. Forcing me to kill Haulers or Type-Xs to gather Materials is plain shameful. What kind of person comes up with ideas like this? And why? To generate "new gameplay"? This is insane! A certain grade of moral corruption might work for some role-players, but forcing it upon players for the most basic engineer mods stinks. A lot. I loved this game and the direction its going now is ruining it.

I loved this forum, but threads like this going to ruin it.

Where did you find that you need to kill authorities or even go to CZ?
Here you go:

Noone forces you. Don't want - don't do it. Simply as is.

Nobody is forcing You. If you want upgrade then you need to kill authority, but nobody is forcing You to have an upgrade.

You want that upgrade, nobody is pushing You to do it.

Nobody also said everyone must have all upgrades.

if You dont want to do it, then do not do it.

Why do you have to kill anyone? If you mean for engineers stuff, then everything shows up as mission rewards sooner or later, so no need for any killing.

For the hardcore RPG players I agree this is an actual simulated atrocity. It homogenizes all NPCs to the point players no longer differentiate good or bad NPC and leads to indifference. And with poor crime and punishment in this game ALL NPCs are fair game. Not the kind of universe that encourages RPG.

I understand the OP, although I think it's a little overstated. I don't play as a murderer of innocents, as a rule, but faced with the need for certain components that are very difficult to get via missions I decided to bend my normal rules and blow up some traders in an Anarchy nav point. I wasn't forced to do this, though. It was my choice, based on my desire to get the upgrades sometime relatively soon, rather than wait for weeks to get them via missions (based on my own experience of how often I see them).

So I don't agree with the "I was forced" statement, but I do understand the desire to not do certain things.

You don't have to kill "innocent" NPCs you know...just drop at a NAV beacon and you will find plenty of haulers with a bounty on their head.

Only shameful despicable pirates would prefer to farm haulers at an Anarchy RES like Qi Yomisi (close to Duaguandri), right?? ;)

Pfft, get over yourself and deploy hardpoints!

Riiiiiight. "or later". You can wait years until yttrium shows up as a mission reward ;P it won't.

What is this supposed to show me? That i am right? Well, .. good job ;P

You cannot get all materials as mission rewards.

This is the     tiest justification ever. I say the Materials mechanic is broken. You say, don't collect them then, no one is forcing you to do so. That's like saying, Oh, combat is broken, yes, so just don't engage in any combat whatsoever. Noone forces you to do any combat anyway. Just leave it alone. That's non-sense!

People thinking that making people pay for this content and then implementing it in a lazy way so that a lot of people dont enjoy it, is ok is what is wrong with this game and this company

what a ridiculous thing to say

Keep in mind this is paid content too, the implementation should have been thought out far better then it actually is

You do get them, rare I grant you but they do appear from time to time.

Only other input is while it's a broad sweeping statement "no one is forcing you", it's also very valid from the point of view that everything out there shouldn't be all nice guy stuff. This sort of dilemma has been in the game from the very start with the Bulletin Boards / Mission Boards. The various factions that are supposedly 'the good guys' still have smuggle this, assassinate that, or steal whatever. So you're 'forced' to make a moral choice, do I do these missions? Do I continue to work for the faction but avoid aka pretend they don't exist, the 'bad guy roles'? Or do I resolve to either ignore or act against that faction? So with that in mind you could also argue that any number of factions could be implicit in slavery, in murder, in theft, or smuggling. Or all of them.

So from a moral point of view, just because the ships aren't wanted, doesn't mean they don't deserve some kind of justice. Besides, you're not killing them as they eject just like we do.

However, when it's all said and done, you've got a choice of morals to make. One of those choices is probably quicker and easier than the other, but only you can decide which one is the right one. Blame the factions, they started it all...

You don't have to kill any police or NPC ships, as explained the bulk of stuff come up as mission rewards, you can also salvage from wrecks. I keep seeing youtubers complaining about having to kill innocent NPC's.

If you are like me and don't enjoy killing freighters or Authority ships - we have the choice to use other methods. Take those blinkers off Dude, you have plenty of options.

I posted about Yttrium a few day's back, what else do you need to find?

sigh, unfortunately just because it's happened with you doesn't mean that is the general experience.

I have searched so many wrecks and found nothing remotely useful

That is RNG at it's finest. you may be able to find stuff in a hour, but someone else can easily go days doing exactly what you do and still not get what they need

Just go to an anarchy system, drop out at the NAV point, take out as many lawless ships as you wish. Simple, and gets you lots of materials.

no, but there are plenty in cz ... oh, you don't want to do scooping in CZ ... go for a system in war, where authority ships of one faction attack another factions starport .... there you have wanted security ships. don't want to do that? most powerplay ships qualify as such, and those are wanted, too ... don't want to fire any shot? go for USS ...

what exactly are you looking for? This website along with Reddit covers everything you need. I heard about ETA Draconis on this forum, went to check it out and found a huge amount of rare materials, others are seeing the same thing. Third time I've been to this crater, perhaps you should at least give it a try?

Honestly mate, I have not killed a single freighter or Authority ship since Engineers released, my main fleet is fully upgraded on FSD/Power plants and Distributor, various engine and shields mods too. Keeping track of my materials and data, nearly 800 materials and lots of data.

All from missions, wrecks/SRV and scanning ships.

I only kill hostile Cmdrs & Pirates, pretty much the only thing I get from Pirates are focus Crystals and a few other bits of random stuff that I don't need.

Lately I've been searching the galaxy map for systems in a state of war, but when i turn up there are no conflict zones at all. Literally went into 4 in a row.

Is this a known issue with the galaxy map i'm unaware of?

I disagree. The biggest horse-doo-doo is the space buggy hunt for rare materials on rocky worlds.

The gal map is out of sync, not sure if it's a few hours or a day. Sometimes a faction is displayed at war, in reality the war can be over.

Fair enough I'll give this place a try.
Hah, I've found the best way to get the items I need, is to give up altogether, travel across the galaxy, start looking for another set of items and hey presto, all the stuff I wanted previously starts appearing.
Not sure how Frontier coded this sorcery into the game
