Formidine Rift... what is it?

Ah... Another of Drew's "eb.p" clues...

No. No no no no no. Just no. He only gets to use that once, and he already has. It's done. Got the EB, P, rot 13, fruitlessly fly across the galaxy looking for eclipsing binary pulsars T-shirt. Just say no to RO, C and EB, P. File under done and never use again.

Haha!!! Did you get your t-shirt though?

Gearing up the Conda to head out tonight. :)

"The core of the problem" To answer this we need to ask the right question.

Some of mine are.
1.Core, meaning core of the Rift? Core of the problem?
2. Problem, solving the mystery, what is at the core of the mystery?
3. What is the central point (core) of the entire Rift..

Well, the origin of core is "coeur" which is French for heart. So Heart Nebula perhaps. Drew is a fan of languages and etymology.

Of course, after posting all day here and getting interested in playing again for the first time in weeks, I come home from work to find my FibreOp out. Bloody Bell Canada.

Complementing Arjin's post though, which has a ton of good questions all without answers, we could compile all the info and hints we have in one single place. We are starting to amass a lot of it, but is spread all over. Might be good to have it all more easily accessible, as we might be able to link stuff better.

I'd happily do it, but English is not my native language and I'm a mess when trying to make things readable...

im now at SCHEAU EAEC VX-V B8-0 and struggling with 33ly range.. im kinda skirting the rift, didnt realise how truly vast it is until i got here

I agree. It may be fun for others. But for someone like me. I can't see or do codes of things I know nothing about. Especially if the codes aren't in the game. It would be very poor form to have people spend many hours exploring systems looking for something. Just to find its some random code in a message that was posted on some thread I've not read and there's no way I'd understand it if I had read it as I can only just read and write :p

Having said that...I'm hooked...Having fun and can't stop checking the forums now :D

If I read correctly, I believe one reference to the Rift states that a Thargoid incursion is happening(in the book, not the game). So I think you may be on track with what we may find.. Perhaps a wrecked alien ship or another piece of technology like the barnacles or artifact. Would be easy to miss and gonna take a thorough investigation of the planets in the area. I just docked at Obsidian Orbital and will be plotting my course from here. Definitely looking forward to the journey, this has reignited my explorer curiosity :)

Whatever it is, it will not be found planet side.
Drew has confirmed that whatever "it" is, has been there since launch, and does not require Horizons

Which leads me to believe, ship wreckage, some sort of Alien presence etc.. Keep an eye out for any kind of signal in the Nav Panel.

I don't mind him using codes, ciphers or rot-13 or the like as long as there are clues to the cipher being used in game (such as in Galnet or the like) so it is not completely a meta thing outside of the game (as the original EB,P RO,C thing was - it was a bit of an experiment on his part that has nothing to do with anything. Take a look at the first UA threadnaught if you are interested). There are lots of tools to play with online for codes and ciphers, but the clues as to which codes and ciphers to use and the actual content to be deciphered should be in-game.

Perhaps our friend with the "CoR" in his signature could do it and copy the content from their site... :p

Dommarra is pretty good with wikis and that stuff too. :p

I'm in a 31ly asp. Heading that way. If you are struggling there I'll have no chance. I was going to keep as close to the R-R line as possible. But I may just cut straight to the bridge. It's bugging me that someone in the book says to find a way across. Not around.

To be honest I only read about the EB,P thing a few hours back. Had no idia what rot 13 was. I suppose it's yet another learning curve for me as now I know :) pluss if it was easy....it wouldn't be fun :)

Yeah, that whole thing was "solved" back in 1.2 . If you go back In the forums around that time. Particularly the UA and Dark Wheel/Children of Raxxla stuff, you will find all sorts of people posting "secret" messages using combinations of Morse, rot-13 and another French cipher I forget the name of. We have Drew to thank for _all_ of that. ;-)

And yeah, the bridge is the easiest way anyone has found to cross, so far anyways.

Hmm.. Perhaps I should do a quick refit in my 'conda. Im at 32ly jump range, but I have a build for around 37ly. Will have to lose some things, such as weapons, but I don't plan to use them anyway, just as a worse case scenario. Looks like I'll head to the nearest station then plot a course.

:) Believe me, there isn't more info there than is here, or I wouldn't be here. If there is, then I haven't found it yet or they keep it very tightly locked.

With the way the community comes together to solve these mystery's maby frontier are always watching. And when we get close to solving the next part thay release a new bit. Rather than it being a time line thing. I know drew has said it's there to find but I hope it (what ever it is) is also there to be stumbled across at random aswell. As the odds of that happening are astronomical (sorry for the pun)

You mean they (and/or the OP) haven't found it yet? I'm very disappointed, it's been months, what the heck have they all been doing? :p

LOL I will have a read of the old 1.2 while I'm working just to see :) if some people like codes so be it. I'll watch with anticipation :) as for the bridge....I can't make my mind up. I don't know if I should be looking for a way through/in from all angles....or i should be aiming for the other side to look there. I've read what people have wrote from the books. But I can't put it all into context. I got reclamation today. Looking forward to reading it. And there's no rush I suppose. This trip out is pencilled in for 3-4 months so I may try to get inside the rift..then around if I have no luck.

My only advice, no matter what you do, is take your time and enjoy it, and don't let it turn into yet another grind. Good luck commander. Signing off for the night, phone battery is dying.

I never grind....and this is elite! I'll always enjoy :D

Staring up at the stars between the heart and soul, the available clues arranged around me in a mandala of post-it notes I plug in Pratnul Anvils best budget navigational enlightenment sim and chant "sim pho nee bo dee ha" rinse and repeat until this came to me. The problem is the mystery of the Formidine rift, so the core is of the problem is the core of the Formidine Rift, (RO,C 7?) a location only reached by 1 route of 7 long jumps in and only the same 7 long jumps out, perhaps with each of those seven stepping stone systems fraught with scary business.

That's what a 20 cr sim gets ya anyway.
