Fourth Anniversary

And i thought a free animal would be better then nothing, i underestimated the depths of dissapointment it could bring
Really? Sorry, that is an attitude I somehow do not really understand. I Welcome every present. Frontier has Not to so it. I mean an Coyote is surely not the animal I personally want for the Game. And I would prefer another bear or cat than the Coyote. But If we should get one I will not complain about it.

In practice yeah, if we get it we get it, but there are some animals that are just such a waste id be lying if id say i would care if we get the coyote or if we got nothing

I personally can't see the coyote as a zoo animal, so I personally wouldn't want it, but if it comes, so be it. I'd likely end up using it eventually. I mean, I see them all the time in the woods.
In my opinion, I guess the coyote would be the NA versiĂłn of the dingo: an iconic desert canine that is viewed as pest but has a widespread range, not super common in zoos (except that, as an Texan, I actually liked the dingo)

I do not want to go into that topic again. It was likely highly discussed already within the Unpopular Opinions Thread. But no animal is a waste to me. There are animals which I prefer and some which I prefer less. But as a present I take everything. I mean it is okay when you now write nothing or Coyote is the Same for you. In your initial Post you have written that a Coyote would even be worse than no animal at all (I know you likely wanted to exaggerate).

Ofcourse an exaggeration, but again its not like i would horass frontier for it if we got it, it frankly are my honest feelings about how indifferent or even dissappointed id feel if we get the coyote.
If its a gift i still take it, but when asked what the opinion on the coyote as the gift is i see nothing wrong with being honest about it

I would make the Same which I would make IRLwith a gift I have no use for. Be polite, say thank you (perhaps with a polite explanation that you personally see no use in it and would have prefered something different) and then forget about it.

Honestly I’m happy with anything, I just think it should be an animal that base game could really use.
  1. A WTE animal wouldn’t be a bad idea, if base game players end up liking WTE they may be more inclined to get the other packs with more options for them. This is what I would like to lean towards, but considering how Frontier has been using WTE it probably will stay DLC only.
  2. Considering the Red Deer, it could be something without a base game equivalent. So from that standpoint I think we could get an animal like a new crane or pheasant.
  3. Or considering the black ruffed lemur we could get something very similar to a base game equivalent, so something like an American flamingo is an easy bet. As would the Nile crocodile, African Spurred Tortoise, or American Black Bear.
  4. Overall a new bird isn’t a bad bet, there are only 3 in base game.
  5. A new exhibit animal may not be a bad idea, but a king cobra may be an animal that could be seen as a draw for packs. Still, better exhibit options are always a plus.
  6. Or, like the red deer, we may get something not many were expecting. Like someone far down the meta wishlist.
My unrealistic hope is we get our first waterfowl, but it’s probably something they want to save for DLC.

I think in the case of the red deer it was always going to end up in game one way or another. The in game decor was a dead giveaway. As was the black rhino and dromedary. Now there appears to be a howler monkey or at least a white sign resembling one and also cobra decor in game also. I think the only decor animal we probably won’t get is the dodo. I personally think we get the howler in a pack at some point. As for a cobra it could be. I personally hope it’s a American black bear or clone type animal. I’ll take a Sumatran tiger any day also. I’d simply take any animal at this point. That is of course if we do indeed get a anniversary gift this year.

🤔 maybe some Species of Squirrel. If I remember correctly the Butterflies from the Graslands Pack can land on Guests, so it should be possible to make something similar where the Guests might also feed them. There are even Parks that mostly focus on their Squirrel Walkthrough as the Main Attraction, so it would be cool to see in Planet Zoo.
🤔 but maybe this would be too much Work for a Animal that isn't in a DLC?
What I would also find cool for a Walkthrough Exhibit, would be some Species of gliding Marsupial

Despite the animal we get I really hope we get its sign along with it
A Statue of it would also be nice

I always think of the Dingo as pretty cool since it's the only non invasive carnivroan throughout its whole ecosystem and one of the few non marsupial mammals in Australia.

Compared to the Coyote where you have a bunch of other canids like red and grey foxes as well as wolves inhabiting the same area which makes them less special.

Let me just say something as a bit of a Coyote Stan:

the Eastern Coyote in particular naturally moved over here to replace the spot left when colonists extirpated gray wolves. In that time it hybridized with wolves and domestic dogs, making it one of the only known wide-ranging hybrid species. It is still majorly coyote with minimal wolf and dog genes though.

You can still be disappointed with a gift - you just shouldn't express it to the gift-giver.

Ecology wise dingoes and coyotes are fairly similar (aside from dingoes having more of an apex predator role) but in regards to being seen as "zoo animals" I think there's a difference. I think most Australians would consider dingoes to be zoo animals, given they're by far the most common canid in zoos here and now found in a large majority of local zoos and wildlife parks. The impression I've gotten is that the coyote is not very common in NA zoos (please correct if wrong), especially compared to other native canids, and it's also far rarer in Europe (4 EAZA holdings for coyote vs 33 for dingo).

(as always it's still perfectly fine for people to wish for the coyote if they want it, just saying the comparison between dingoes and coyotes may not be the most apt)

Gonna jump back into this thread and give a new animal of discussion. A third tapir. Don’t need it, but I think it’s an underrated choice.

Remember whatever animal we get for anniversary, that type of animal probably won’t be in the following pack. Hence my top 3 ideas, Masai giraffe, Ethiopian wolf, and another tapir (with any African ungulate in 4th)
