FPS comparison Horizons vs Odyssey March 2022... Why?

Source: https://youtu.be/vVYzUDdRn2M

I did two 1v1 PvP fights at the same spot (the same ring at San Tu 2) within a couple of days. First in EDH, second in EDO, however very similar for this kind of 'stress test'...
Conclusion for the scenario of a pvp fight, most likely a very demanding scenario: FPS in EDO are 50 % of those in EDH...

Why?

Or is it to be considered an improvement - as announced along with one/some of the several updates since EDO release - to have around 55 fps in EDO instead of... 20? ^^

roughly 50% framerate is what i see in linux land (for space related environments)

Why? you'll never get an official answer. The breakdowns of the rendering frames that happened at the time of odyssey's release still apply and they identify numerous questionable behaviors that hint at problems. That's probably the closest you'll get to a why that the forum hasn't already guessed and discussed for the past 8 months.

I'm just gonna guess it's the PBR lighting that is a massive resource hog and for the most part doesn't actually make the game look better. In the future it should have some benefits though but right now it's caused all manner of ugly problems and costs a lot to run it seems. Anyway I'm not a coder and don't know. This is just a guess.

Did a little bit of Horizons last night for the CG and was stunned at how smooth and nice everything looked. Odyssey is still full of jaggies and pixelations. Looks awful.

I'm assuming the new PBR lighting stuff was completed quite late in the day (weeks of "don't worry, it isn't optimised yet"), so they only discovered what a huge hit it was in the final stages.

PBR materials ARE a lot nicer, but I suspect the reason people aren't seeing many improvements is that lots of the existing textures would have been converted in a quick fix sort of way, which could possibly have fps implications too.

Maybe hire someone who can fix this FD? just a thought...
You don't have to fix anything if you don't acknowledge the problem. As far as I've seen, every time someone brought up the disparity of performance between Horizons and Odyssey in similar situations (supercruise, asteroid rings, ship CZs, basically anywhere outside of atmospherics), there were zero replies from the developer's side.

Along with things like fire and smoke making hundreds more draw calls than necessary, glass shaders being terrible inefficient (which is mostly fixed now thankfully), and the AI/character models also sucking up power. Hell, I've lost about 100fps inside stations while flying a ship, not even on foot, compared to Horizons

I've been complain since launch that the frame rates in Odyssey are fraction of Horizons and seriously fail to see the up side, the new material based rendering doesn't look THAT much better than the old ( very old and out dates ) renderer.

I've been testing each update since launch and haven't seen any really improvement at all, the frame rates on the ground and virtually unplayable.

I won't be able know if Update 11 fixes or improves anything since my PC died and my new one has a much higher spec, maybe I'll fire up Odyssey before the update and see if it's actually any better now - It certainly should be!
