FPS difference between open and solo/pg

So i was thinking why the hell my fps was so bad while in game today and yesterday. And today i started to investigate, looking at stats etc. and i couldn't figure out why i was having 40 fps less than i have had since 2.3 dropped. There was no background applications consuming resources more than usually and no thermal tec. issues. I relogged and launched pg and was like WAAAA normal fps again.

Then i started to log in open, solo and pg. Pg and solo both had nice smooth 120 fps (i have limited fps to 120) and back in open it struggle to stay above 90 fps and dropping to under 70 fps while staring at empty space in empty instance. I lost 1/4 of fps when joining open. I tested while alone in random instance in system at the edge of the bubble. No players in instance in open or pg.

In pg when players in same instance i still get the smooth 120 fps but in open alone in instance i get a lot worse.

I have never seen this before. Has this always been the chase or new in 2.3? This is the first time i notice it (open having lower fps/worse performance).

Can someone test if its same to them? I will log bug report if other experience same and if its new "problem" in 2,3 and didn't happen in 2.2.03. If it happened before 2.3 launch then i ques its not caused by bug.

Quick video test/proof i made:

I've noticed similar issues.
I haven't tracked FPS numbers or any other specifics. Just that open seems more laggy since 2.3 dropped.

Haven't bothered with a bug report, as i just assumed it's some 'growing pains' with the 2.3 update, and have been waiting on the first patch.

I've heard talk about FPS dropping if you have someone on your friend list that is outside the bubble in the game. It might be this you are experiencing.

Facinating!

Have you posted this on the bug forum? Just make sure you add your dxdiag with the video.

Although 70FPS isn't really all that bad for 90% of the player base... Plus there is a lot more going on in Open, especially in popular systems, it can be seen more in lower end pc's & especially on XB1 in the starter systems. It should be less obvious in less popular systems.

This is clearly a problem with the 2.3 release. Solo and group mode both have much higher FPS then open. The more friends online the lower my FPS goes but only in open. I also had to remove a 100 friends to stop the game crashing whenever I wanted to send a message.

I like what fdev have done in 2.3 and I look forward to getting my 150FPS back when in open from a future update.

Nowt as far as I can see (once FPS has settled).

First is open.

Do you have friends in your list, in Open, outside the bubble and online? (so you can see them on your galmap and in the second tab, top panel?).

- 7 friends online
- 4 in solo
- 2 in pg don't know which
- 1 in open (in bubble)

I am also in bubble.

I've had this problem too. From systems that are busy to systems where I'm probably the only visitor in weeks. It does seem to shake out after a while but I've been playing in Solo for a while now to avoid it so I haven't thoroughly checked it out as it makes me feel icky.

For information's sake:

- US Midwest
- 100Mb copper from curb then fiber
- Approximately 4-10 friends on at any given time
- Worse when in a busy station

I get this occasionally as well - also, a side note, if you go into the camera suite your FPS goes back up to what it should be...

Considering solo and private group is normal FPS in the cockpit, and it means it only happens in open, must mean it has something to do with our HUD overlays while in first person and something to do with the new history tab and friends tab - it's the only thing I can think of that's changed that could cause it.

Well, there ya go. The problem so far seems somehow restricted to having someone in your list on your map far outside the bubble. Might be related to the fact that distance is now constantly calculated and shown on the top panel. Would explain why noone noticed it in beta: noone was exploring. Someone reported this issue with one friend online outside the bubble, FPS shot back up when this friend logged off...

Ah yes, that is possible. I have one friend who plays quite a bit and is typically at about 27k light years away from me and has been for many many months.

If its only one mate, you might ask him to log off for a minute or two and see what happens when he is offline and back online.

We just tested this with a CMDR who had 3 friends out in deep space. Unfriending these 3 players took his FPS from 30 to 80. The rest of the group is now unfriending everyone in deep space...... a patch would be nice.

Aww...I don't want to unfriend my deep exploration folks...they give me hope...I'll just stick to solo for now.
