Hardware & Technical Frame drops and jitter/ poor performance in VR

This recommend cpu for elite is a 3rd generation i7 or an amd quad core. This i3 blows the doors off the amd. I am getting a 1080 at micro center tomorrow for 7 bills. In about 2 weeks after I'll get an i7 8700k from there. Crucial needs to put my rsm in stock or I'm getting something else. My mobo is itx and has 2 rails for ram. That leaves me to ask if i should just go for 32 gigs or would that be overkill as 16 should be more than enough for vr?

16 is more than enough for any gaming needs, and will be for quite some time.

CPUs stay relevant for longer. Fact. Getting a good CPU is a decent future investment. Unless you've bought 7700k, and Intel have released 8700k shortly after :D They didn't have the best business practices last year to be honest...

I hate the fact that I've bought a 7700k. :) I keep telling myself, that it will be great for overclocking, whenever it will be necessary.
I have a GTX 960 4gb and just managed to grab an 1060 6gb FE at the nVidia store as an interim upgrade, I'm planning to do a proper upgrade next year. So is it worth to give VR a shot with an i7 7700k with decent cooling, 16gb DDR4 3000 mhz RAM and an 1060 6gb?

7700k is still a very capable CPU. And it handles overclocking very nicely. I'm sure people do VR with less powerful CPUs with decent results.
