Frame Shift Cooldown OVERRIDE!!!!

Ok, I've had a few drinky-winkys and I'm fighting Thargoigd scouts (cos I'm to y to hit the big guys) and I accidentally dropped into a ring around a plant cos I was to close exiting the station, I watched the frame shift cooldown and an idea struck my addled brain....

What if you could fire up your FSD while it was still "Hot" but if you did you'd get a 50/50 chance of it, and you, exploding!!!???!!!

It would be such fun if you were interdicted by a terrifying pirate who demanded you did (do?, my internal grammer is confused) unspeakable things with his (or her) bobblehead...... a real oldskool Dungeons & Dragons style dice roll choice of easy escape or instant death.

Something like the old forced mis-jump button?

Of course, there was always the risk of frying the hyperdrive. So yes, have a player jump out, but if it goes wrong, don't blow the ship up. Completely destroy the FSD beyond the ability of an AFMU to fix so the player has to press the self-destruct themselves (potentially sitting in space 0.5ls from a station but unable to get there).
 
Aw, have it jump you 1000 LY away instead of blowing up. Better hope you have a fuel scoop.
I was about to suggest this myself. It's already in the Lore (the misjump), so that would be awesome yet risky. As an explorer I might do this on purpose just to see where I end up!
 
And now you get scanned all the time coming into dock as a result.
"Hello commander, although allies are always welcome here, we recommend you clean it up a bit. Feel free to use our facility showers, but please discard any towels or wash cloths you use"

This message from station when you drop out of SC and request docking.

Instead of asking for donations, they offer them.
 
What if the odds were more varied, and much more likely to be unpleasant

10% chance, clean getaway
15% chance, massive damage to FSD, but you get away
15% chance, massive damage to FSD, but you go nowhere
15% chance, moderate damage to FSD; you get away but it's a misjump
15% chance, moderate damage to FSD, but you go nowhere
15% chance, FSD fails and starts a very long cool down sequence (longer than if you failed interdiction escape)
15% chance, total ship destruction
 
I like it, but the consequence should be that your CMDR catches on fire instead of your ship instantly blowing up.

Then we can have a cool animation of the CMDR waving his/her arms wildly, attempting to put out the fire on themself with an extinguisher, and then giving up and blowing the canopy to vent the bridge. (Additional dice rolls for each of these actions.)

So at the end of it all, you could end up with a burnt Remlock suit and no canopy, putting you in a bit of a worse way than you started.
 
How about: 25% chance to escape, 75% chance to explode spilling most of your cargo and giving credit for your death to anyone who landed a hit on you in the seconds before you blew up.

Or 25% chance of escape, 50% chance of death (same parameters as above), and 25% chance of it simply not working.

Either way, make it an absolute, last-ditch Hail Mary, to stop people using it willy-nilly.
