Ships Frame shift drive boost [SCO] gets lost?

So i have recently purchased a type 8 hauler, however its original jump distance is terrible. OK, so no problem there, just go visit an engineer. So i did that, got an upgraded level 1 5 drive which boosted my jump range by about 11 LY, however, and i didnt even know this was a thing, It came with an engineered super cruise boost titled level 1 frame shift drive [sco]. Cant tell you how much time this has saved whilst hauling, however my question is this. If i go and get the frame drive to level 2 /3 and so forth will i lose the [sco] ability that i have currently gained? I cant remember what happens since been that long that i spent time on multi engineering a ship.

And i remember one time, i visited an engineer with my asp explorer and it improved some aspects of my ship but reduced my jump range significantly and i couldn't reverse it. Was that bad i had to totally strip out cargo and passenger cabins to get the LY range back to anywhere near where it was and was still 10/12 LY worse off than before. I have had to turn that ship into a long range explorer now rather than a jack of all trades and im sacred the same thing happens again. Cant even remember how that happened with the asp, but remember was royal pain in the neck

SCO is an intrinsic feature of the SCO FSDs, so the boost option will never disappear from that drive. Once materials are invested in engineering they can't be recovered, so if you don't have an A-rated SCO FSD it may be worth buying one before you start engineering it (although engineering materials are much easier to come by than they used to be, so wasting them is less of an issue).

If you are engineering stuff and your jump range reduced its because you increased the mass of your equipment. Some engineering recipes give one benefit (e.g. armor) with a downside (e.g. heavier). You might want to look at the engineering and decide if it was worth it or if you want to put some lightweight engineering on things if jump range is your goal.

The best FSD to buy is the pre-engineered SCO FSD from human tech brokers, which can have an experimental effect added to it. You need a Titan Drive Component from a titan wreck site and some other materials, no credits needed.

Are you sure about that? Last night I finally got my first Titan Drive Component and went to the human Tech broker and was able to unlock the 7A SCO FSD. It immediately asked if I wanted to go to the Outfitting screen to fit it, but then wanted me to pay just over 60 milliom credits for it. During the recent CG I think they gave you one when you handed in the components requested, but now I think its just an unlock and you buy them for credits.
I'll get on tonight and check by unlocking a 5A SCO FSD and see if I can buy 2 for credits.

Edit: Ok, just checked and I actually have one in my Stored Components list at the station I did the hand-in. It is also now available to buy for 60 million, unless its a different version. It shows as a 7A FSD (SCO).

You can buy normal SCO drives for credits, but you need to unlock the pre-engineered SCO drives with materials.

Each pre-engineered SCO drive must be unlocked for materials, getting you one (1) pre-engineered SCO drive of that type. If you want another, you'll have to pay the material cost again.

If you are buying for credits then its the wrong one. You unlock the pre-engineered one for a pile of materials including a Titan Drive Component, and to unlock another you need another pile of materials. No credits. And yes I'm sure about that ;p
The one you get from the Tech broker has no credit value and is called exactly "Frame Shift Drive (SCO)(Pre-engineered)". You can also tell its that one as it has a boot time of 2s where the regular one has 10s.
