Frame shift drive online!

I occasionally get this message during combat. Can someone tell me why?
Shields are 98-100%, I have 99% power usage and FSD is priority 1.

No, that would be "Frameshift charge detected" and is a voice message. What OP is referring to is a text message on screen that says "Frameshift drive online". I, too, have wondered why that arises. I have my priorities set so that as soon as weapons are deployed FSD goes offline. After all, who needs FSD when weapons are deployed and we are engaged in combat. So why that message should appear is beyond me. I thought perhaps it was because weapons had overheated and shutdown thereby allowing for FSD to come back for a short time until weapons came back.

That message is refferring to your target's FSD status. Your ship (can apparently) detect whether or not your target's FSD is malfunctioning or not. Dealing damage to a target's FSD can knock it offline temporarily or, if destroyed, permanently.

So, if you see this message during combat, it means that your target has regained capability to use their FSD.

When you have done a jump or been interdicted, or interdicted someone. it take a little while for the frame shift drive to recharge and when the FSD is rdy that text will pop up.
You will also se a small spinning blue wheel a bit under your fuel gauge when the FSD is recharging.

That is completely different. That has to due with FSD Cool-Down, not FSD status. The warning message you get appears on the info-log. Besides, the message the OP is referring to has to do with targets, not your own ships

I occasionally - and for no discernable reason - randomly get this Message on all my combat ships.
FSD is Prio 2 and on some Ships might be disabled in combat due to Power Management, but there'd be no reason to ever get this Message while Hardpoints remain deployed and no Power Supply/Demand changes occur.

IMHO it's a bug.

The message does not refer to your ships FSD status. It refers to your target's FSD status. This is why you're seeing the message when you are not altering your ships power management.

Ahh now heres the fly in the ointment, I get that same message when I'm sun scooping. well after my ship is charged. I get a few times if I'm scooping slowly.

You sure it is the same message? I've never experienced this during scooping, and i've done quite a few exploration forays, so I know my scooping.

This is not a bug, from my experience. I have been seeing this message since beta. I am going to reiterate, and hopefully people read it this time, what I said before. This message is referring to your target's frame shift drive status. It appears when their ship's FSD recovers from a malfunction or is returned to operational (repair or power disabled) status. At least, from my experience, this is what it means. It may be buggy, but that's what I understand it to mean.

The pic FalconFly posted is the message I see.
I was wondering if it was for the target, but thought it would indicate "target FSD online". The quandary is if this subsystem is reported for the targeted ship, why not others?
It's not like I have FSD targeted. Hence the seeming illogic of the alert message.

It has to be a bug. I get it with FSD manually disabled as well as when it already is online, up and running. I guess there is something else it wants to tell us and loads the wrong message. Like the "under attack", when there is nothing.

I get the same thing too, and my FSD is definitely offline due to power issues (Vulture!).

I am quite sure it is a bug that does not bother me very much.

Nope, this type of central, large Font message you only get for Modules of your own Ship.
Any Target's Ship status will be given voice-only, with the only exception of "Surge Detected" in small Font below the Target's Status.
And "Frameshift online" (or Offline for that matter) of a locked Target is not triggering any such Display or Voice Msg. You'd have to manually check your Target's SubSystems to find out...

That's obviously my Cannon that malfunctioned - not the Target's one, if it even carried one (which is doubtful)...
Would be insanely confusing otherwise anyway ;)

THe thing is, I've had times where I've damaged a target's FSD significantly, while they are charging. By the time that they should have jumped away they didn't, then suddenly I've seen "Frame Shift Drive Online" on my middle HUD. My FSD was fine, no damage, not turned off by power management, nothing. When the message appeared they suddenly started to charge again and jumped away.

I just had a proof of concept occur to me just now. I specifically targeted my opponent's FSD and held fire after dealing a significant (50%) amount of damage. Low and behold the "Frame Shift Drive Online" message appeared before me after about 20-50 seconds. This message appeared significantly after the FSD Cooldown timer ran out. My FSD may be damaged, but has not taken enough damage (all from interdiction damage) to malfunction. Even if it can at this damage level, I did not receive a malfunction message.

I'm still getting these in the current version of Horizons, both while flying in supercruise and near RES, outside of SC. Sometimes two in a row, within seconds.
