Franchise Community Challenge Discussion

Hello everyone. I've been doing some searches but can't seem to find a thread to discuss the community challenges in Franchise mode, so after a couple of years of wanting one I'm finally starting one myself. ;)

You can see the current or upcoming community challenge here:

I would like this thread to be used for general discussion of all community challenges such as; sharing your progress, your personal goals, your strategies, tips and tricks, sharing/trading animals, and just cheering each other on!

I personally play almost exclusively Franchise, and a lot of my play-style revolve around the community challenges - not so much for the rewards, but because of the actual community aspect of the whole project (I love that, working together with other players). So it would be fun to group together a little with other forum visitors that take part in the challenges or are just generally interested in talking about them. :)

First I would like to congratulate everyone on the last challenge! I was doubting for a little while if we would make it, but everyone seemed to pull together at the end and we reached the goal during those last hours before the challenge was ended. It was very impressive! So thank you everyone for some awesome efforts! :D

Next week we're releasing 3 star temperate animals and I would love to know what animals everyone is planning to use? What temperate animals do you think are the easiest to get to 3 stars quickly and/or consistently? What animals might be better to avoid?

For example; I find red foxes to be a good choice. You can have quite a few together and they breed well so you can easily get more, I usually find it easy enough to get a good star rating on them fairly quickly - I just have to keep an eye on them and remember to actually release them before they go sterile and can't get released anymore.
Pronghorn is another animal I generally can get a good star rating on fairly quickly. And I don't have to worry about sterility ruining being able to release them so that a bonus. ;)
Capuchin on the other hand are usually reaaally slow at gaining stars in my zoos for some reason. Quite often they don't even reach 3 stars until just after they've hit their sterility age so I'm not as likely to use them during this challenge...

Please feel free to share your own thoughts! Are you already preparing for the next challenge or do you wait until it's actually started? Any tips on good animals to use?

I haven't played franchise in like 2 years and was thinking of starting anew franchise sometime in the next 2 months. Just wanted to ask how worth are community challenges in terms of gaining conservation creds.

I am confused about what animals count towards the challenge. By the Zoopedia American Bison is Region Temperate. But they don't count. The same for Timber Wolves and Jaguars. 3* and 4*. What Animals do count?

I honestly haven't paid a ton of attention on how much conservation credits you actually get during challenges. My playing style makes me automatically earn way more cc than I ever spend. You get 25 or 50 cc for every few animals up to a point if I remember correctly? So if you're low on cc it's obviously a boost but it's not the quickest way to make cc. :) I'd suggest that every day you log onto the game click on the franchise menu so that you earn the daily 100 cc, then you can just click back and play another mode if you want but that should build you a small nest egg. Personally I focus a lot on breeding good animals so simply selling all the extras makes plenty of cc for me. I always sell at the prices the game suggests (or lower) and my pile of cc still seems to just grow and grow. I also see my animals on the market a lot, being re-sold for higher than I originally sold them - so that's a way too. ;)

I'm just about to try to open the game (I'm currently in a place with not as great internet as home so we'll see how it goes haha) but I've had that problem before in community challenges, where some species don't seem to count even though they should...

Edit; I only had time to play for a very short while for now but I also noticed that capuchin monkey, indian elephant and indian peafowl does not work. So there seems to be a lot of animals this round that are bugged out of the system. :/
American alligator and eurasian lynx did work on the other hand. I'll test more species later, and would appreciate anyone else willing to helping out in listing animals that worked towards the challenge for them (or not) so we all more easily can work towards the goal...

Lynx counted for me earlier if you'd like to add that to the list.
I find it really odd that no base game animals seem to count? This week's challenge is definitely the most buggy I've been apart of...

Yes it is a little frustrating. Some "of us" prepared for the challenge by implementing good breeding groups, and now all that time was for nothing (besides good animals)

The list for the counted animals is now complete. I went through every single available animal to check and those are counting:

Thanks for putting this list together! I tried releasing both kinds of camel (bactrian and dromedary) and neither count. I suppose it's a little strange they're considered "temperate" by the zoopedia in the first place.

Thank you so much for putting in the work! It will hopefully save a lot of frustration for anyone who finds this list before they try to release other temperate animals that are bugged out...

Good news! Seems like there was some fix because I just released a few species that didn't work towards the challenge earlier but they did count now! So that should make things much easier in working towards the goal of this challenge. ;)

I mostly choose the zoo with the most habitats that will give progress for the challenge and just play with the zoo.
So currenlty I play in my temperate europe zoo.
If needed I make some simple new habitats for animals that must grow up to get enough stars.
This way I enjoy playing while I give my contribution to the challenge.

I was working on my 'C' zoo and my California Sea Lions worked wonders .. released over 30 when I last played earlier today. But I just checked to see what the status was but it seems we fell short of the required number.

I also play solely Franchise and after a long break have got the Planet Zoo vibe back and have been for months now and having fun with a project or two in my head.

Looking at the next challenge, for those that like to plan ahead .. it's Breed Silver-Rated Vulnerable Animals. There's a fair number based on the in game list. So hopefully this will be a bit more successful and easier for some people.

Even though we didn't meet the goal of the challenge I still want to thank everyone who participated in any way! I always enjoy playing the challenges because I really enjoy working together as a community (the actual rewards are less important to me personally, I just want to play "together" in some way haha).

Looking forward to a breeding challenge next though. ;P Usually they seem easier to complete but most of all I enjoy that there's often an influx of good animals hitting the market so I can get some new blood for my lines. ;D I'll probably open a new zoo sometime this week just for Vulnerable animals so I can focus on breeding some good animals to drop on the market for everyone. Hopefully I can find a couple of excellent male capuchin monkeys and/or male koalas to replace the guys I released this last challenge. 😅 And I should take the chance to improve my stock of giant anteaters (I have too many mediocre anteaters in my zoos at the moment I think...).

Yeah I know that feeling. I mean I assume they actually drop males and females 50/50 but with a species where I only use a couple of males in a group and the rest are females it feels like they give birth to a lot of males haha. And I usually sell the males and buy new males when needed from other players (keeping females from my own lines). It's sometimes hard to find capuchin males on the market with great stats that are not white (I like the "regular" coloured animals better, which can be tricky with a market that is often flooded with the "special" variants I don't really want in my zoos).
All those males I put up for sale myself tend to sell really quickly though, so that's nice. :) (although I often see them come back for sale at a higher price from whomever bought them later on so... 😂 I suppose people think I sell mine too cheap haha)

I noticed that too .. where's the females, wheres the females .. I am not gonna buy 6 females because you're being stingy rofl. Maybe its one of those genetic tricks that they are not telling us. if the xth position on the yth gene is z1 value then they will have males, if z2 value they will have females. I just wish we had a way of seeing ALL the dna stuff that decides things so that we can make things happen deliberately than hope for the best rofl.

Oh yes, I have had that happen as well. I almost go to buy them and go 'wait a minute, didn't I literally just sell you 5 minutes ago' rofl.

I like the variants but try to breed true lines so that originals with originals and coloured with coloured. In the hopes that the familial closeness that created them is bred out over time by mixing with unrelated ones.I've got a fair collection of them with the red fox with about 5 different variants stored away so that I can create a red fox variant breeding zoo.

I have a question: are the animal rewards only base-game animals? So far those are the only kind of animals I have been rewarded.
I haven't played much in the past year or so, but from what I remember, yes the rewards animals are only base-game animals.
The community challenges seem to also focus heavily on base-game animals too. My guess is using DLC animals is too much of a hassle to deal with...particularly with having an AI figure out which DLCs every player has when determining rewards.

And probably the fairest option, as that means everyone that has the base game can take part. But never noticed - I still have all my animal rewards though from the past.

Okay, these are the ones I have gotten over the years .. Barring a couple I dipped into when I needed one and none were on the trade center.
