Franchise Community Challenge Discussion

I caved in the end anyway 🫣
Put in the last of the big cats, but with bare bones buildings, no guest buildings, and the Pallas Cat and Clouded Leopard still to go
Joined a few of my gaps now :D

I have a silly question for the community challenge. There are columns in the last three or gold I'm on the 2nd what does it mean when I'm on the last one? The credits increase each time?

If the challenge is completed (& this one is), you get 1 free animal for being on the tallest gold step, 2 for the middle and 3 for the smallest
I think they only come from the base animals rather than from any DLCs, although there was a mention of a change in the recent patch that might affect this

Edit: the patch notes actually say this:
Updated challenges to include animals from the Zookeeper Animal Pack and the 2024 Anniversary Animal.
So just means that animals from those packs count towards the challenge; but no change with the awards being from the base game

Oh gosh! What a wonderful tip! I didn't think about the Community challenge, not accepting DLCs besides what was stated prior! Thank you!

Oh excellent .. definitely worth reporting these issues then. But it also means the latest DLC may still not be included. Will just have to wait and see. I am wondering if they only get added when the next DLC is out, giving time for people to acquire it and benefit.

As to the podiums, they relate to how many you did compared to others working on the challenge. Think of it as bronze silver and gold awards with bronze getting 1 animal, silver getting 2 and gold getting 3. These are my podiums for the previous 3 challenges.

Thought I ought to post a final map, but last one, I promise:
zoo_big_cats08b.jpg

All habitats and buildings done, but it was getting surprisingly laggy, so decided not to let guests in yet, even though it all ready for them and I'm paying the staff!

Seeing a post on the Steam forum, it sounds as though a number of people are finding the new patch laggy, so hopefully that gets fixed soon
(so actually I've turned off a lot of the detail in the graphics to try and help)

A lot of effort not wholly directed at the challenge, but it's been fun :D

I had severe lagginess in my research zoo but that just had the new animals in and research running at max speed. It lagged so much I had to hard boot the computer.

I just added the cheetah and lion habitats. Still leaves me 5 cats to go but no rush now 🤣
And then the African Leopard and Clouded Leopard.
Leaves the 3 far east cats to do.

That sounds like it felt for me - adding one at a time and seeming to take a while
But then I was hand holding the exhibits, where automatic mode seems to make terrible decisions until you have them in a good state already

It was more a time thing for me .. spent a few days working on something else .. so squeezing in some game play to climb up the podium. Up to gold now so the zoo can finish in its own time or when the next cat challenge comes along.

Latest zoo version with the last two cats named roughly at the location I plan to put them.
Not a single exhibit - All money from fees, donations and shopping facilities.

And finally .. all cats in .. even the new ocelot. At least I think that's every one now 🤣
Ended up with 60 cats released for the challenge, and down to 140ish storage.
In theory I shouldn't need to touch this one unless I need any cats or another cat related challenge :)

Next Community Challenge

Big Ears, Big Cheers

Did you know there's some known for skills like painting? What a talented group of animals! Let's help boost the Elephant populations by breeding Silver Rated Elephants for this week's community challenge!

Aye Carumba .. This one could be an expensive one rofl .. Hopefully I have a few sitting in one or two zoos that can be shanghai'd for the challenge.

A quick look at the two elephants in question ... of course I had accidentally traded out/released all my African Elephants forgetting I was working on my A zoo and had stored a bunch of animals .. so yeah, some spending money there .. anyway I digress .. The African Elephant can be housed for enrichment with the Hamadryas Baboon. The Indian Elephant with the Malayan Tapir and Proboscis Monkey. You may be able to add more that the other animals will get enrichment from even if the elephants don't. It all depends on how similar their requirements are.

So, initial thoughts for my zoo for this challenge going forward .. ( assuming they still happen when they stop supporting the game )

African Safari -> Middle East Safari -> Indian Safari But whether the Middle East Safari will just get replaced with a guest amenities area as a pitstop between the two major safari's I don't know.

A quick google on the natural habitat locations for the animals I mentioned gives this rough map of potential areas. I think the orange purple clump would be the best location for the shared habitat placement with the proboscis area a part of it with a water area separating them with a foot bridge for staff and the animals to cross over.
So, with the entrance roughly where the middle east area is gives a path towards Africa and a path towards Malaysia with other animal habitats and guest amenities en route to help with money receipts to help feed the elephants. Will expand on this later after some in game checks on other animal options.

Stepped into a new zoo for the challenge and marked out rough areas where potential animals are planned to go. And there are plenty of exhibits that fit this area if I need filler spots. I'll probably do the same thing I did with the cat one and have a transport system that distributes the guests to different areas. Initially for something minor but eventually to the big feature animal(s). The question is whether I will finish it before the challenge ends rofl.

There are other animals that will fit these areas but I am deliberately steering clear of the cats we have just worked with and primates. The proboscis will be the limit just for the enrichment for the elephant.

Rethinking my idea to something easily started small and expandable as funds allow.

So .. here we go .. Using the Primary Elephants as a guide I've decided on animals in the same part of north west africa for one grassland based habitat. And then an Indian tropical based habitat for the animals there.

North West Africa Safari. Grassland
Aardvark - 420m2
African Crested Porcupine - 1245m2
African Elephant - 20827m2 with large water area requirement
Common Ostrich - 4913m2
Common Warthog - 500m2

Indian Safari - Tropics
Asian Small Clawed Otter - 1380m2 with deep water requirements ( Coastline option )
Greater Flamingo - 570m2
Indian Elephant - 12918m2 with large water area requirement
Indian Peafowl - 1134m2
Wild Boar - 1488m2

2 lots of 5 species should hopefully be enough for 3 zoo keepers to take care of ( fingers crossed ) .
A boat ride perhaps south of the habitats to allow those guests to see the animals that are frequenting the water areas more.

This way I can start small and expand the habitats out as funds and requirements increase. And hopefully by the time the challenge starts I'll have enough good females to breed a few for the challenge. If any get pregnant too soon I'll store them as soon as they get pregnant so that their challenge credit pre birth status will still count when the challenge starts.

Well, it took selling all but a handful of my stored animals rofl to pay off the debt after the big land to build the initial stages but .. after just placing the souvenir store I have the first area all but complete. Still need to pretty it all up but the guests have to use the transport to get to the food and drink and the habitats rofl. I don't have the African Elephants in there yet and it's currently half the size for the max needed so might get away with this size initially with a few elephants. Hopefully after I have placed some vending machines to keep their thirst from going too crazy they'll spend more money.
