Franchise Community Challenge Discussion

Good work on the challenge last week everyone!
Next week we're releasing 4* Eurasian animals. I'm not always great at getting that many stars on my animals though. 😅 So my question to you all:

What Eurasian animals do you pretty consistently get to 4 stars before death? (or sterility if it's one of those species, since you can't release a sterile animal)

I'd like to start preparing with some animals this week so they hopefully reach 4 stars before or during the challenge next week. xD

Personally I usually manage to get lynx to 4-5 stars before they go sterile at 15 (I tend to release them before they hit 15 anyway since my play-style is focused a lot on breeding). I also usually have moose at 4-5 stars when they're about 20 years old (which is when I usually release them to replace with a younger breeding animal).
But yeah; I'll happily take any advice on where to put my focus! :)

Assuming Eurasian mean animals that can be in BOTH Europe AND Asia areas then the following are amongst the list

Arctic Fox

Eurasian Lynx
European Badger
European Deer

Greater Flamingo

Moose

Red Deer
Red Fox
Reindeer

Timber Wolf

I have all these in my alphabet zoo Franchise but some I usually breed up to 4-8 babies before releasing them to limit the chance of close relative breeding, but may have to keep them going until their star value increases and trade out/release excess ones.

Thank you for you input! I do hope that they mean "Eurasian" as in Europe and/or Asia since that would give us a lot more options. ;P And the picture they chose is of the komodo; which gives me hope that's the case.

The flamingo is one of those animals I never have luck getting many stars on! 😅 Even my really old ones tend to only reach like... 3 stars. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Arctic and red foxes are a bit hit and miss for me, most of the time they gain 4-5 stars before they go sterile but then I get a few individuals here and there that just won't go above 3 stars or something like that! 😂 Same with timber wolf, usually they get enough stars before they die (or rather, I release them when they get old enough and I have a new breeding pair to replace them with) but I sometimes gets stubborn individuals. Red deer is usually good though, thanks for the reminder!
I just started out with reindeer during the last challenge so I'll take some time working on ageing and expanding that herd (as well as expanding them to more zoos), thanks!
Haven't gotten around to using badger and fallow deer yet so I'll try to take the time on adding them too to my zoos if I find some good ones on the market. ;)

Yeah, when I saw the Komodo .. I wondered the same as well in which case the Europe OR Asia animals include these ones. - based on the in game zoopedia and a nice fair number for those that have them all. I have most if not all of these in my zoos so will endeavour to trade as many of them as possible.

You're obviously better at this game than me, being able to get all those species to 4 stars most of the time. 😅 I often struggle with several of those... There are a few I haven't gotten around to playing with properly yet though... might give those a try and see if I have better luck. :)

I don't know if I've ever got any of them to anything more than 2 stars. I usually release the main breeding pair after a few babies are born. And keep 1 or 2 of the babies for the next generations breeding cycle and trade or release the rest. I change tactics for these types of community challenges and keep them as long as possible. I know I've got 3 and 4 stars that way but that may be on longer lived animals which is a genetic stat that I don't usually worry about so another factor that I change up to increase my chances.

Oh I see, I misunderstood and thought that your list of animals were answer to my question on what Eurasian animals people have more easily gotten to 4+ stars. 😅

Interesting to hear about your play-style since mine seem to be kind of opposite? xD My focus in breeding is mostly on Longevity and Size since those are the stats I find hardest to get to 100 (and what I really want is to breed animals with 100 in all four stats). Fertility is sort of important with some species but mostly I don't care as much since most species breed just fine even if one parent have 0 in Fertility, and I never really understood what Immunity actually do in the game so I tend to care the least about that stat. And I spend so much time trying to set up "perfect" breeding pairs that when I manage I want them to keep going for as long as possible so I only release them just before they go sterile or get so old they will die at any minute. xD I try to breed as many good animals I can to put out cheaply on the market for other players. :) I always keep 1 or maybe 2 babies from every pair to have a replacement when the time comes though. :D (sort of off-topic I guess sorry, I just got interested in how different ways people play haha)

I did wonder :) But Nah, I thought it would be good to have a guide list to help people prepare for the challenge when it starts. I'm personally trying to minimise releasing animals that are from Europe or Asia. I'll be zoo jumping over the challenge timeframe to get each set of animals build their star status up. And hopefully get a reasonable count while also assisting others early on with some of the young.

Well, looking at the important genetics ( the ones they let us see and control in some way )
Size - This may be important in animals where the one that gets to breed is the biggest - always wins alpha fights etc.in harem based animals ( either female dominant or male dominant )
Longevity - This is where the 4* potential will be more feasible, the longer an animal lives the more chance it will hit that 4* status while it can still be released
Fertility - As we know this will likely effect the chance of pregnancy after mating, possibly the number of young where applicable.
Immunity - The higher this value is the more chance it will live its life out without catching a disease due to low cleanliness or an imported animal with a previously unknown illness or unhealed of said illness

I usually aim for high immunity and fertility ( in the green is good for me, especially if the higher alternative is too expensive ) to give them a better chance of breeding and surviving, I'm happy with a mid to high longevity for animals I breed throughout their life ( 1 male harems etc ) but will settle for a lower value on animals I may breed for a few cycles before switching out ( monogamous or single pair couples etc ).

Yes, that's what the game guide says that immunity does. I just haven't noticed it to be true haha. Maybe because my animals almost never get sick no matter their immunity... If they got sick more often I might have seen a pattern that the ones with low immunity got sick more often but for all the time I've played I haven't really noticed a difference..

~~

To get back on topic a bit more; I already asked what Eurasian animals everyone seem to have an easier time getting to 4 stars. I'm also wondering the opposite. What Eurasian animals does everyone almost never get to 4 stars before death/sterility?
For me flamingos is one of those species I just can't seem to get many stars on, and for some reason Bactrian camels tend to be really stubborn in this area too...

Okay .. I'll update this as I release animals but so far I have released the following and it counted towards the challenge ( 4* Eurasian Animals Released )

Good idea! Since there always seems to be at least one animal that gets left out by mistake. 😅
I released Formosan Black Bear and Binturong so far and both species counted towards the challenge.

Unless people have a huge bunch of animals working up to 4* we might not complete this..
Currently 29% and I have managed to release 17 animals and showing in the top 10% at the moment.

Yes, I keep hoping that now when it's the weekend people will have a bit more play-time and we might still make it? 😅 Doesn't seem too likely but yeah... All we can do it our best! ;) Getting animals to 4 stars is definitely a struggle for me at least... But doing my best!
I also keep up my breeding and selling good animals for the game-suggested prices (or lower if I have the patience to change the price) and any Eurasian animals generally gets sold pretty quickly. So I'm hopeful they're bought by players trying to help with the challenge too. :)

Yeah I missed out at a sand cat release because I was holding out for the mate to go from 3 to 4 .. but alas they got older before they upgraded .. alas. Note to self: Don't do that on a challenge week rofl

Ugh yeah that's so annoying with the species that go sterile so you can't release them if you miss that window.

We haven't gotten as far on the challenge as I was hoping (currently at 36%), but I'll keep on working on it tomorrow anyway! I won't lose hope! xD

Yeah, I was doing well finishing up my T-Z zoo adding the new additions but then thought I would play with the modular shops .. ugh .. that totally went wrong due to me not seeing the modular shop pieces to use and thought I could use the shelves in my own building rofl. Bye bye lots of money .. losing even more despite trashing it all to get the money back. So ended up creating a new zoo and slowly introduce the babies and new adults into the new zoo and run the old zoo enough to hopefully star up the old adults before closing the zoo down again. Have the same problem with my DEF zoo which has dying female dingos at the drop of a hat. It's on it's 3rd version at the moment.

Whew managed to salvage the old T-Z zoo. Had some primates and lions that were close to their end of life so used the sell option to get some quick cash. Up to 40% for the challenge and about 12 hours to go .. getting concerned now. But think I might have to spend an hour or so in each zoo and hope I can get some Eurasian animals up to 4* and out of the zoos.

Learned something new with the Pangolin - She was due October and still pregnant 11 months later - realised she was a burrow animal and I hadn't put a burrow in. Placed a burrow and picked her up and put her down near the entrance and she went in. Maybe burrow animals HAVE to have burrows to have their babies.

Glad to hear you managed to salvage your zoo!
Regarding the pangolin; I have pangolin habitats without burrows and the females gives birth just fine. I do have that same delay in birth at times though (with a bunch of species) where the female can be overdue for about a year after she was supposed to give birth. Sometimes when I notice this it helps to move her a bit and she'll actually finally give birth. I'm guessing because moving the animal is a sort of "reset"? So instead of being focused on doing whatever she was up to when she was supposed to give birth, when I move her she does a new "assessment" on what she needs to do and if nothing else is more urgent she finally takes the time to give up the offspring haha. (I'm guessing since I don't actually know anything about the mechanics behind this, I just know it helps sometimes to move the female to get her going)

Yeah makes sense .. I did try moving her before and thought she was preparing .. but then months letter she was still in the same location doing the same action ( scratching the ground )

Yeah I sometimes get very impatient with these extremely delayed births when I just can't figure out what the girl is doing that is so important she can't seem to get around to it! xD I get a delayed birth if the female is eating or sleeping but when she seems to be doing nothing? That's just her being a tease. xD
