General / Off-Topic Free Retro games for Everybody.

just thought i would share with you people some stuff from my Favorites folder.

this site has over 5000 games covering the Megadrive, SNES, and NES that all come packaged up, so you just click the EXE to run the game.

i first came across this site many years ago when trying to find Flashback and another World

but it has other Classics like
Desert strike
Super Mario World
Chase HQ

and they are all free to download and thanks to the inbuilt emulator can be configured to use you joypad and screen resolution.

http://www.gamefabrique.com/games/flashback/

but for the main page go here
http://www.gamefabrique.com/

have you come across this site before or have i given you a gem.:D

I've still got Flashback in its original packaging. i liked that game and the character animation was very good for the time.

FlashBack is still one of my alltime favorites, I originally had it on the Atari ST but the Megadrive version is identical.

the good news is that there is a Flashback HD version in the works

Ohh I remember that game, it was rocking...

That reminds me of another old Commodore Game - Mission Impossible it was quite similar to Flashback

Just a watchout though - the games on that site are not all free. I downloaded one of the "18 Wheels of Steel" games as I remember having some fun with them in the past. What I got was a 1 hour free trial version with an option to purchase for $9.99. I suspect that's because it was an old PC game rather than a console ROM type thing.

Nope, this was on the gamefabrique site - if you click on the "By Alphabet" link under "All Games" you get into the full list of games - there's no specific mention of PC games, but when I downloaded and installed 18 Wheels of Steel : American Long Haul (which I don't think was ever a console game so it must be the PC version), it came up as a trial version with a 1 hour time limit.

So - I think as long as you stick with the console ROMs you'll be fine, but watchout for the PC ones.

EDIT: Just figured out why this is - there's a section for "Demos" alongside the console categories, and that's what this was under.... so, stick with the console categories and you're fine.

LOL Ye ...just needed to borrow some space to put the demo up..Dont worry they are aware of it :)
it will be retrorunners.co.uk or something ....i have compiled a lot of rare games....
Terra Nova for instance is 500 meg...but works a treat :)

Terra Nova is one of those games I've been meaning to play for years, but never got round to it. Love all of Looking Glass Studios' games, particularly Thief, can't wait for the new one.

Flashback is still really cinematic, a true classic. I presume aiming will be with the right-stick on a controller or mouse for the remake. Glad it's finally getting the HD treatment! :D
