Free The Cobra MKIV

I couldn't have one because I was on Mac at the time and we couldn't and still can't have horizons. In order to support frontier further I actually bought a windows PC and an expensive graphics card before buying horizons, by then it was too late for the cobra mk iv but I have brought loads of ship skins and vanity items from the frontier store since.

How about if FD poll the people who currently have access to the mk iv to see if they'd be willing to make it non exclusive.?

I think that would be the fair thing to do.

I'd vote no.

I am a Linux user. I purchased Windows and hardware specifically for this game. I'm sure a lot of players are in the same boat. Nobody cares.

If fdev makes a liar out of themselves by releasing it, I'd be very hesitant or directly opposed to any future 'exclusives' that they try selling in times of need.

If stuff is limited 1-time offers, then i think it's fine for FDev to not re-release them. Like the wireframe Cobra MK3 paint job.

However i would say there's a case for the Cobra MK4 to be released on the PS4, as they have not ever had a chance to get it (unlike PC / Xbox).

Sounds reasonable.

As I recall, the preorder was $20.00 more than the post order. It was sold at full game price before it was separated into a season pass. Now, it's something like $40.00 cheaper. So if you're wanting the ship that bad, I'd say $20.00 would be a fair price.

But ships for money is a no-no. I'd prefer that they just released the (as was accurately described earlier) flying turd. Maybe give those of us who paid full price a $20.00 store credit or something to compensate.

I would probably pay $20 for a good ship, but probably not for the Cobra MK IV. You're right though, now that I think about it, selling ships for real money is a very slippery slope that I wouldn't want to see FD go down. I do like your idea about $20 store credit although I suspect that the never-ending forum fallout would still be enough to make FD wish they had never done it. Its not a big deal, of all the ships in the game the MK IV is the one I can most live without.

I dunno.

I was out of the country when Horizons was on pre-order so I never had the chance to get my Cobra 4 and it does irk me a bit but, then again, I know that if I got one now it wouldn't mean much anyway, and all that'd do is devalue the ship for the people who are entitled to have it.

Perhaps the way forward would be for FDev to come up with a whole series of "limited edition" ships (just make 'em versions of existing ships with some minor improvement such as, perhaps, the ability to fit slightly bigger guns or a better component and give 'em a funky new paintjob) and then award them to people who do stuff like, say, rack-up the most bounties each year, travel the furthest, discover the most planets or contribute most to CGs?

It could be some kind of "Pilot's Federation Awards" thing.

It's never going to happen. Remember the Wireframe Cobra? FD tried to put that back into circulation and they got backlash, that's why it's not in the store anymore. They tried to use the "limited only means limited for now" argument, except that wasn't what they put on their store page or what the sale implied. They're not going to try that again.

There were benefits associated with investing in the game early and/or substantially. These benefits should not be given away, be it a slightly larger starter ship, reduced insurance, non-Elite Founders World access, special paintjobs, whatever.

That being said, while I do have access to the Cobra MK IV, I could not care less about the ship - it is useless.

What is the next complaint? That you can no longer buy the Lifetime Extension Pass for $50?

I have the MKIV but was (and am) VERY opposed to having ships as exclusives. All non-cosmetic items should be obtainable by every player. I hope to see the MKIV return...maybe as a pre-order offer for the next expansion.

As an owner of the Mk IV, I don't have a problem with it being non-exclusive. It's terrible, I used it once, saw how bad it was, and put it away, haven't touched it since. I would also not have a problem with FD selling an unlock in the store for about $15 US. The ship is garbage, but you can tell they put some effort into it, so I'd say it's worth actual money, unlike some of the newer skins (don't get me started).

This one speaks the truth - it is a steaming pile - I tried it once and lol'd at how bad it was. You really aren't missing out unless it's hitting that completionist nerve in which case I can somewhat understand, but seriously it is rubbish. There is a reason why all the people that can have them don't either own one or fly them.
